Sources: The #Raiders are signing QB Kirk Cousins to a contract that pays him $10M for playing in Las Vegas in 2026 ($1.3M paid by LV, the rest by the #Falcons) and $10M next March in a fully guaranteed roster bonus with no offset. There is a 2-year team option for $80M.
Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M. The Falcons will pay Cousins $8.7 million this season, the Raiders another $1.3 million and Las Vegas also agreed to pay its new QB a fully-guaranteed $10 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2027 new league year. And maybe most notably, it also sets another new mark: this will be the 11th straight NFL season in which Cousins’ contract will be fully guaranteed.
The overreactions will be fun, it’s essentially a 1 year, 11.3M (20M total value factoring in Atlanta) deal for the #Raiders with Cousins 8.7M due 3rd day league year in 2027 with 2 years/80M after that. It’s essentially a deal set for the Raiders to have Kirk for 2026, and only 2026, if he’s tradable after the year then he’s moved to a team with a decent starting contract. If not he’s released with limited dead money as none of the 2/80 is guaranteed. Atlanta is still paying Cousins in 26/27, his cap hit with LV will be near or exactly at vet minimum. Cousins will make 20M in 2026, but LV is paying 1.3M of that with additional money offset to 2027 and beyond through void years. It’s phenomenal cap space management.
