@DNA_Is_Cancer @Empireaesth Perhaps if someone in the United States Government had taken a bit more of an interest in the history of Iran and the Middle East we wouldn't be in the mess we are today. History can be important in understanding the modern world. But each to their own.

@MarioNawfal If it was a military strike, the response from the US would confirm it as such with a massive retaliation. That carrier is worth $13.3 billion.

@canthony104 @archivetvmus71 It's another children's TV programme that's been deep sixed due to woke political correctness. It apparently promoted racism and negative stereotypes of Chinese people.

@Michalis_Vlahos @mherlihy0816 @RDPHistory The sad thing is that the order for HMS Invincible was actually placed in 1973 by the Conservative Government of Edward Heath. By that time former Defence Secretary Denis Healey had been out of office for 3 years. The Conservatives had ample opportunity to make design changes.

As @XT7412 so condignly reminds, it was an absolutely terrible design — constrained as it was by anti-Navy Labour. Because of the gas turbine trunking, its original hanger was shaped like a barbel, and its flight deck space was throttled. Some of this was ultimately corrected, Thank the Lord. I was in the CIA when I saw the plans in 1977. I was shocked. What was amazing was that RN leadership was able to get the ship built at all. According to lore, Healey was shown an image of the proposed "Command Cruiser" in profile, so he had no idea that there would be a full flight deck. Such a disgraceful Commie! Thank God he could be duped!

@mherlihy0816 @RDPHistory The design was a horrible political compromise which somewhat limited the ships capability. The cruiser bow (in order for it to be a through deck cruiser) limited flight deck space and the lack of side lifts limited hanger space. The central scissor lifts could be problamatic.

@BrianWillmot @mohammedakunjee The full report with all the important evidence has been withheld for 76 years. There was a great deal of fuss about this by the victims lawyers at the time of it's release. If the full evidence had been known Heath would have been arrested. Come on tell us all your evidence 😂

🚨According to my reliable sources, Benjamin Netanyahu actually died 7 days ago. The two subsequent public appearances on camera appear to be fabricated, likely using advanced deepfake technology. Israeli authorities are expected to attribute his death to natural causes and make an official announcement in the coming days to maintain stability. What is your opinion?

@disgustedvoters @theipaper @DCBMEP Not really it's been there right in the face for anyone who could be bothered to take an interest. Since the 'options for change' white paper in 1990 it's been cut, cut and cut again. 36 years of repeated budget cuts with two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It really wasn't hidden.

@SkiverMacIver @FXMC1957 His dementia couldn't have been that bad at the time of his resignation as he remained an MP until 1983. The reasons for his very sudden departure are still a bit of a mystery. Apparently he informed Jim Callaghan but Denis Healey only found out about it from the TV news.

16 March 1976. Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson, who turned 60 only 5 days earlier, stunned the political world by announcing his resignation citing unspecified “personal reasons”. He had been Labour leader since 1963 and PM from 1964 to 1970 and again since March 1974.

Back in 2003, Charles Kennedy, then leader of the Liberal Democrats stood against the US/UK war in Iraq. He initially faced intense vilification and ridicule for opposing the 2003 Iraq war, yet was later completely vindicated by the Chilcot Report. As the only major UK party leader opposing the invasion, he was heckled in Parliament, and The Sun called him a "spineless reptile" and a "snake" for his stance. But history now judges him well. We forget the lessons of history at our own peril.

@ColinLocke73 @CheckCharlieB That is something of a historical what if. It's true the loan wasn't subsequently needed as interest rates fell but that only happened as a result of Britain being under strict IMF supervision. The IMF forced through some of the most draconian spending cuts in British history.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Labour’s 1976 IMF bailout. Labour forced Britain to seek an IMF bailout under James Callaghan. $3.9bn, the biggest IMF loan in history at the time. 2026 déjà vu.

@Rodsmith9000 @chatswithem @Telegraph @grok Russia sells crude oil to India who then refine it into diesel. This then officially becomes Indian oil (diesel) and they sell it to the UK with a nice markup. The UK then pretends it doesn't buy Russian oil.
