Here's the promised follow-up on unlocking Wisconsin's passenger train potential! There are in fact *two* ways to go from Chicago to Madison.

@Eric_Erins @atlanticesque Having lived in (and loved) my share of Chicago 3-flats, I will also say that Prospect Heights is a gorgeous neighborhood with its trees and uninterrupted frontage!

Brownstones are nice but sorry I’m partial to the Boston Three-Decker

We perfected suburban housing and then just… stopped building it.
English

@chacaranda That's right, we can truthfully say that we're "anti-regulation" when it comes to zoning law (and pro-regulation when it comes to geographic sprawl)
English

YIMBYs, being influenced more by the left, are TERRIBLE at branding. "Abolish single family zoning" is an atrocious slogan. Negative framing, makes it sound like you want single family houses eliminated, etc.
"Freedom to Build" - positive framing, appeals to everyone.

We might have to call them “patriot blocks” in certain markets

@jdjmke This is absolutely huge for me! I've been trying to figure out how to get at these data for a while (for transit advocacy purposes) but I'm still a total census novice.

Is Madison, Wisconsin finally going to break its Amtrak curse?
Expect more intercity rail articles from me soon.

@atlanticesque I've always found it so striking how certain functions just can't be hidden from even the most beautified urban spaces. Like sorry your commuter train's passing through an industrial park rn.

Jane Jacobs was writing over half a century ago about how planners possess a pathological urge to replace productive, vital organs of urban economy with lifeless, oversized parks and "open space"

@jdjmke @thomasjwood @electionstudies Haha Tom was my resident head (grad student who lives in the dorm and watches over the undergrads) back in college!

The last time I posted the income relationship to presidential vote among White respondents to the @electionstudies ANES, people asked for additional estimates among all voters.

At least they’re being honest, right?

@realzachzahnle Hey I think it's great that people get to enjoy things, but Rocky Horror is a campy, subversive cult classic and Minecraft is a franchise tie-in product. No judgement here, neither film is "for me". Just think it's a whack comparison to draw.
