Elon's arc is amazing. Dude spent years building up a reputation as a visionary tech genius who'll transform humanity and then decided that his next project was trying to force Twitter to be his friend

Productivity was the main motivator for the Nazi programmes to kill disabled and chronically ill people so whenever I hear a politician talk about productivity I see a descendent of the same ideological lineage

@DragonCobolt Resources exist to be consumed, and consumed they will be; if not by this generation then by some future. By what right does this forgotten future seek to deny us out birthright? None I say! Let us take what is ours! Chew and eat our fill!

@IronicLark A friend tried to read it due in part to Limbus Company and was of a similar opinion.

It's not even a bad tone, but this is a long book and it grinds on you. And then you realize you still have like one third of book to go and wonder how many brainrot deepdives fit in that before Moby Dick actually shows up and ends it all.

One detail I haven't mentioned is that Ishmael speaks of whalers the way speedrunners speak of speedrunning "What other kind of fishery produces the oil that kings are annointed with?" "Personally I think the dragon of St George's tale was actually a whale"
☀️Fer☀️@IronicLark

The funniest thing is that the book is basically written to give context for people that weren't even aware that whaling ships exist so you have full on chapters that feel like a fantasy book describing a fantasy monster hunting job

@DragonCobolt I hated Vanguard in ME1. People hyped up Charge to me so I tried it in 2 on a second playthrough. NOPE! Yeah, I'm not falling for it a third time in 3, no matter how OP people say it is

@ThomasJohnMurch @DragonCobolt The way the Reapers were they were losing from attrition anyway because their 'reproduction' process was so dumb and conventional weapons definitely worked to an extent.

@DragonCobolt Yeah, as much as I like Mass Effect, the main story always seemed a bit too "generic evil threat" to be truly great. The Reapers look cool, Sovereign gets a neat speech, the Collectors are fun too ... but after ME2, I was sure 3 would be about finding a superweapon to beat them.

@DragonCobolt That's my opinion as well. Cohesive heist game right there with assembling a team and all that.

@ManyATrueNerd It's a TTRPG, rather than a video game, but I like how Hard Wired Island sets it all up as ways to make yourself more useful to corporations, and making you go in debt.

A problem that I often have with the cyberpunk genre in gaming is that, after a couple of token nods to society being dystopic, they then almost universally treat the player's embrace of tech and body modification as a super-awesome-source-of-superpowers-that's-fine-actually.

@IronicLark Just because the author had intended one thing doesn't mean others can't derive something else from it, after all.

For real tho, I still have a chunk of book to go but the book feels more like a cautionary tale on revenge and obsession than anything nature-related Half that and half the 19th century equivalent of a Deep Dive video but about whaling

Literature teachers: "Moby Dick it's an allegory for the futility of man trying to defy nature" The actual book: "Moby Dick is very real and will fuck you up"
