@Mr_P_Shooter @g__j Whilst hardly mentioned, this is an important point. The Tesla mantra that the best part is no part makes for more elegant designs. The shift to electrification is a huge opportunity to get ahead of the competition with cost and complexity reduction...

The sad reality of what happens when companies & industries deny change rather than seizing opportunity. Economics, physics, climate & technology mean that electrification & renewables are inevitable. Incumbents can make all the arguments they want, but delay means greater pain.

NEWS: Volkswagen has announced plans to shut down at least three factories in Germany, laying off tens of thousands of staff and shrinking its remaining plants in Europe's biggest economy.

@adrianbowyer Makes sense. It feels like a good method for free-form manufacturing. The demo at TCT about 10 years ago was quite crude in comparison to this example.

Pulling an F150 will not break a Cybertruck's rear frame This video shows that prior to pulling the F150, the Cybertruck's rear frame slammed onto a concrete block, which is what caused the actual damage:

@MAKERS_MOVEMENT (1) an update to the patent system to enable initial AI powered prior art evaluation and drafting of a 'holding' patent application lasted (say) 12 months and which could subsequently be replaced by professional patent attorney funded versions.

@MAKERS_MOVEMENT Additional support for grass roots innovators - makers - would make a big difference, especially in the hard to fund area of hardware. Some thoughts as follows:

Congratulations @Keir_Starmer, @RachelReevesMP & colleagues. Voters rejected culture wars over net zero, and business is here to help deliver green growth Stability will be good for investment Be bold in tackling planning, grid and outdated energy market. People will thank you

@elonmusk I don't know if SpaceX have a crowdsourced ideas portal, but if not it would be great to have one where innovators could see the detail of issues and potentially collaborate to fast track solutions for consideration by the core team. Thanks for a really interesting video.

@elonmusk With the flap hinge gap issue, I would have thought that it would make sense to allow the flap and supporting are to deform rather than rotate so that the surface area change was both minimal but also flexible to accommodate the tile expansion.

@elonmusk Tiles could then push each other along the track from the hot underside around the ship into the cooler top part. The dovetail profiles could themselves be fixed to the stainless skin using slotted holes so that they could move longitudinally from along the length of the ship.

@elonmusk In theory, to accommodate the issue with the gaps between tiles as the tiles expand with respect to the airframe beneath, one solution might be to have the tiles mounted on dovetail joint form factor angled strips.

@g__j This would create a virtuous circle - both encouraging the growth of energy intensive industry around areas with renewables and encourage more areas to host them. Clearly a better way forward.

Totally agree It’s mad that we spend billions throwing away green electricity instead of giving it to local people and businesses more cheaply when it’s windy or sunny It’s like the butter mountains and wine lakes all over again Local pricing would reduce cost *everywhere*

Net-zero targets are all well and good. But how countries get there matters a lot. It's the area under the curve that matters for warming. Delay emissions cuts and you not only make net-zero less likely, you also make climate change worse along the way.
