last night at a party in SF, someone walked up to me, shook hands and said they’re from XYZ company. i politely apologized: ‘sorry i’m not from here, what does your company do?’ he said in a sarcastic tone: ‘wow she doesn’t know what we do’ he briefly explained, gave a 🙃 look and moved on to someone else. it was slightly uncomfortable.

@sayonanii That's valid! It's a lot like tech debt-- something you know that *should* be handled eventually but isn't due to prioritization. I can't like I'm above it, I do it all the time at work.

We have been thinking about building our platform to host our work for quite a while (and even designed a lot of it back then) but to be honest, between designing/coding new widgets, customer support for 200+ products and other things, we just ended up delaying it and scratching the idea. One widget after the other and another, we got caught up in this loop and it was a big snowball!
It did take the rumors about SE closing to open our eyes and give us a sense of urgency, but the comprehension and patience of our community also played a huge part on it! If these bad news didn’t spread and put everyone’s overlays and assets at risk, I doubt streamer would’ve been as forgiving of us dedicating 90% of our bandwidth to building our own platform. So there is a lesson to be learnt here! And we’re so genuinely grateful for everyone’s patience and dedication to the process too! I guess there was a silver lining ✨

Usually this is advice I tell startups in-person, but as an avid small business/startup enjoyer I figure I'll share it more publicly...
Diversification (in all aspects) of your business is essential, and sadly it's not often thought about until its importance is staring you in your face. Something you rely on could have major changes/go under at any moment.
People have talked about this with platforms like YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok, but they don't always consider it for other important aspects of how they make money.
With the news today about StreamElements, I'm extremely happy this creator is able to continue their business seemingly without further disruption, but the short scare really does hammer down the importance of not putting all your eggs into one basket (especially when carrying that basket means keeping the lights on!)

We are aware of the recent rumors about StreamElements closing and we’re still trying to process everything. Creating widgets has been pretty much our full time job for the past couple of years and we poured so much time and effort into building a huge portfolio of products that relied on StreamElements. We are as frustrated as you are and honestly pretty scared about the future! We are considering all possible already existing tools or even something a bit more exciting. Who knows, maybe this is the beginning of something new! Not sure what comes next but we hope StreamElements gives everyone a grace period to fully transition, which will gives us time to do the same! We also hope we get the same kindness from all our users because from now on, we will have to rework dozens and dozens of widgets and make them compatible with totally different systems. We apologize in advance for any delays with finding the right alternative, re-releasing widgets and even replying to tickets. We will be doing our best to make this transition as easy as it can be and your support and patience will mean a lot 💜 We're also actively listening to suggestions on Discord so feel free to stop by!

A bit late on this.
Unpopular fact, but Morgpie is in fact following all proper Twitch TOS (has proper content classification labels for BDSM gear wear, has proper attire for herself).
I know it can be very easy to point the finger and say “But X is weird and should be penalized!” or “They’re just going to do Y thing and take a 1-3 day vacation and come back and do the same thing!” but that sort of attitude is what the other streaming crowd says about VTubers.
It’s important to not hate on other streamers or communities, but to instead use our voices to communicate with Twitch about setting better, more strict / lax policies regarding sexual content.
Drawing arbitrary lines in the sand for whatever we want to get off to and what we think is “weird and unacceptable” doesn’t help anyone and only serves to sow animosity between communities.
Also, morgpie has DEFINITELY received penalties in the past so don’t think she gets away scott free.

@Gammastar_VT @zachbussey The url field in the Get Clips API will return the updated link. The embed URL (which is on the domain clips.twitch.tv) has not changed.
So no breaking changes or cause of concern to developers, but if major changes are made in the future we'll announce it ahead of time.

Twitch appears to have retired the clips.twitch.tv linking system.
New clips now feature the creator's username. Old clips are automatically redirected to this system.
