A report, titled 𝐿𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼𝑛𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑖𝑛 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑎: 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒, 𝐻𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑘𝑒𝑡𝑠 𝐹𝐼𝑁𝐷𝐼𝑁𝐺𝑆 revealed that, 10 per cent rural households of India own 44 per cent of land, while a staggering 46 per cent of rural households remain landless.

Villagers, who had been maintaining nightly vigils to block police entry, resisted the move. The villagers are protesting the administration and police action, arrests of activists, and heavy militarization to push through road construction to facilitate bauxite mining project.
