Friday night, under the lights. A box-office attraction 🍿

⚫️⚪️ Looking at Newcastle's post-takeover project as a whole, how far we've come and how far we've still got to go, I think some middle ground is needed. ✅ Since 2021, we've won a trophy, made another final, reached a semi this season, qualified for the Champions League twice via the league, battered PSG, pushed Barcelona in the last 16 for 75% of the tie and signed some top players in a squad that's so often been tight-knit, together and well managed by Eddie Howe. But there has to be some balance to this. ❌ To be one of THE best clubs on the planet by 2030 (Hopkinson's words), suggesting we'd be competing consistently at the very top, we still have a long, long way to go. Staveley talked about us winning it all, Al-Rumayyan made the 'No.1' claim early in the project, and Hopkinson said similar last month with his bold '2030' statement. Ambition is great, but we need to see so much more, on and off the pitch, to make these wild dreams anything close to a reality over the next four years. While the early days post-takeover felt near perfect, from ideal appointments to on-field recruitment, recent windows and staff turnover have been a mess, as have too many performances on the pitch, which is on the players and manager. A huge period awaits to get this project back on track. #NUFC

When the takeover happened, if you said to us in 4.5 years we would have: - 2x UCL runs and reached last 16 - a trophy + one other final - players coveted by the best itw We would say YES. That would show progress. The people complaining about it all zoom too much on the detail rather than looking at the big picture. Pock ourselves up - huge run in starting Sunday. Big summer. Lets go! #nufc

It turns out our season does all come down to beating the mackems. That’s just a little bit tragic considering what our ambitions should be.
