The average #HECSdebt increases ~$1,700 today. For many young people, this will outstrip the HECS contribution they make this year. Committing students to debts they will never be able to pay off actively discourages them from education. The system must work better than this.

Today, #HECS debts are increasing massively because of indexation. As if young people don’t have enough on their plates with crises in cost of living, housing, mental health and climate change.

We also support our youth sector colleagues working proactively to eradicate discrimination and vilification of LGBTIQA+ young people. On our blog, learn about how employers can create safe and supportive workplaces for LGBTIQA+ young people. (3/4) yacvic.org.au/workplace-incl…

Vic Gov have given an 18-month timeframe to expand current anti-vilification laws to include and protect LGBTIQA+ people. Discrimination is happening now, not in 18 months' time. We are calling on @VicGovAu to act now. Read more 👇 (2/4) YACVic.org.au/idahobit-2023

For #IDAHOBIT day, we’re highlighting that ‘A’ stands for ‘against’ – a direct call to be active against discrimination and vilification of the LGBTIQA+ community. Unfortunately, several IDAHOBIT events in Vic this year have been cancelled due to threats of violence. (1/4)

The Federal Budget is out – what does this mean for young people? (1/4) Income support is being increased by $2.86. This won’t even cover a concession Myki fare and leaves young people below the poverty line. #RaiseTheRate YACVic.org.au/2023-24-federa…

14 *is* the compromise. 12 years old, potentially with exceptions, is not good enough. The Victorian Government must listen to the evidence which clearly urges them to #RaiseTheAge of criminal responsibility to 14. No police, no carve outs.
