Invitation to the Master Days & Summer Party at CICS @ TH Köln. #Graduates will present their final #theses. Information stands will focus on new materials and methods in #conservation and present current research projects. Workshops and laboratories will be open to you.

The RiA (conservators in training) is delighted to announce a more permanent collaboration with the youngconservators. From now on we will post somewhat regularly and try different things so please bear with us. We are excited for all that is to come!

Research can be beautiful! While examining the glue joints in plywood, students at the CICS @th_koeln applied dye to make individual materials more visually distinct. Sometimes, this can lead to fascinating and frankly #beautiful images, when viewed through a #microscope.

Before & after: delicate carved details of an object which has been damaged and severely soiled during the flooding of the #Ahr valley in Germany in 2021. It belongs to a series of #art and #cultural objects that are still undergoing #conservation treatments. @th_koeln

Sometimes you find treasures in trash! This swing chair was supposed to be discarded because of the broken seat. Instead, it ended up with a conservator who is happy to take care of it. #ALTtext #diy #conservation

Menthol on #paper - time lapse of the sublimation process. Students at @th_koeln tested different materials that sublimate. They pass directly from the solid to the gaseous aggregate state. That is used in #conservation for various temporary treatments. !B #ALTtext

The devil is in the detail! At first sight the punched background of the “Annunciation” seems made of simple dots. Under the microscope however, the punch turns out to have been split in two halves. Have seen punch marks like these before? #BeautyInDetail
