JavaScript has "lexical scope" - Scope: store variables, govern what variables can be accessed - Lexical scope: your scopes are defined during "lexing" (a step during the compiling of your JS) With "lexical scope" your scopes are defined when you author your code

I've always recommended Kyle Simpson’s YDKJS books as the JS counterpart to my @CSSSecretsBook. Now he’s raising funds to finish out the remaining 4 books in his second edition book series. Take a look and back his effort, it’s worth it! kickstarter.com/projects/getif…

The "You Don't Know JS" series by Kyle Simpson helped me to embrace the depths of the JavaScript language with clarity. I cannot overstate it's impact on me I *try* to read @YDKJS annually Kyle is currently raising funding for the second edition: kickstarter.com/projects/getif…

I was pretty lucky to get to write the foreword to the first book, Get Started. I still think this is the new, best "let's teach you JS" book on the market and it's worth sponsoring its completion, particularly because it's free to everyone who wants it kickstarter.com/projects/getif…

@bothzoli Heh, stickers are a great idea. I may try to add some add-on rewards like that during the campaign. I'll look into it. :)

@YDKJS have you considered adding "YDKJSY" stickers for the rewards? or maybe "ITNISTKJSBPNC" (as in "I Think Now I'm Starting To Know JavaScript But Probably Not Completely") stickers? everybody loves stickers, right? 😊

Regardless of where you are on the JavaScript love/hate spectrum, knowledge === power. A better understanding of this quirky language can make *you* more powerful, productive, and less frustrated. kickstarter.com/projects/getif…

@gmcconnaughey O'Reilly stopped publishing books (in the traditional sense) years ago. I've been self-publishing books for the last 5 years now, including the first two books of this second edition already.

@YDKJS Could you talk a bit about the decision to self-publish rather than having O’Reilly publish the 2nd edition as well? Seems that would take care of the finances side of things and negate the need for a Kickstarter.

If we ran a crowd-funding campaign to get the rest of the 4 second-edition books written, this is what it would look like:

(poll) so... would you back a crowd-funding campaign structured this way?

@isntitvacant My take: node is still CJS-first, and always will be. ESM tacked on is fine, but Node isn't ESM-first. I embrace this. I author in CJS, and use Moduloze to up-transpile to ESM for those who want it, and Import-Remap for making those ESM work in browser. Works fine.
