Your regular reminder that there are a number of accounts, including @En_chinaNews here 👇, that specialize in fake quotes from Chinese officials. Almost all the quotes they post are invented. That's why they never include sources, as they don't exist. I researched this specific one, and Guo Jiakun never said "I want to put an end to the rumors... China has neither confirmed nor denied supplying weapons to Iran." He did explicitly call the reports of Chinese arm exports to Iran "pure fabrication" (纯属捏造, mfa.gov.cn/fyrbt_673021/2…) but he did NOT adopt a "neither confirm nor deny" posture, as that would contradict the actual denial. Guo Jiakun neither said that "China welcomes President Trump's decision to de-escalate and open the Strait of Hormuz", in fact he said pretty much the opposite. On April 14 he condemned the US blockade as "dangerous and irresponsible behavior" (危险和不负责任的行为, mfa.gov.cn/fyrbt_673021/2…). Heck there was no "decision to de-escalate and open" Hormuz to welcome 🤷‍♂️ It's actually depressing that accounts like this are not only allowed to exist but get so popular despite my regular warnings they're pure fake news. And they almost never get community noted. The real problem is that people want these quotes to be real, and don't understand China enough to notice when a "quote" sounds nothing like how Chinese officials actually speak.
