Politics in Nigeria sometimes leaves you with more questions than answers. If certificate forgery is no longer a ground to challenge election results, what does that mean for accountability? If joining two political parties can now land someone in prison, will politicians finally pick one side and stay there or will they still try to play both sides like some high-profile politicians we’ve seen? Meanwhile, as preparations for 2027 gather pace, with election materials set to fly across the country and courts still settling who can contest what, one thing is clear, the rules of the political game are shifting again. So the real question is, what does all this mean for voters like you and me? 🤔 Catch the full breakdown and stories in this week’s issue of The Ballot. Read the full gist here 👉 bit.ly/Series3Issue9

This process strengthens the credibility of the study and the evidence it will produce. Our goal is for citizens to have reliable information about how their representatives perform, which should make it easier to demand accountability and strengthen democratic governance. #YiagaAfrica #10thNASS #NASSassessment #democracyinaction

Can religion become the backbone of Nigerian democracy, or is it its biggest blind spot? This latest article dives into the friction between faith and the ballot box, questioning whether our sacred spaces can build a more accountable nation or if they are shielding the status quo. The writer explores how moral authority can—and should—become a democratic asset. Read this latest article on our Gen-Z blog Series for the full perspective 👉 shorturl.at/2oVnt

Receiving the “Partner With Us on the Citizen Townhall” email from @ZikokoCitizen, further deepened our awareness that conversations around elections need to be expanded. It showed the varied nuances of the insights Yiaga Africa’s National Voter Intention Survey (NVIS) held beyond research and policy dialogue spaces. Our participation in the @ZikokoCitizen Townhall 2026 was more than a fireside chat. It reaffirmed the need to keep demanding accountable elections and amplifying citizen voices. @DCynthiaM's reflections at the Citizens Townhall centred on trust, inclusion, and electoral integrity. Together, the Zikoko Citizen Report (2nd edition) and Yiaga Africa’s NVIS findings show that participation in 2027 will depend on credibility, safety, and transparency. The Conversation Nigeria Needed Before 2027 From questions about electronic transmission to discussions on institutional responsibilities, the townhall created space for honest dialogue and public accountability. Democracy works best when citizens understand the rules and insist that they are implemented transparently. #ElectoralAct2026 #CitizensTownhall #ElectoralIntegrity #DemocracyInAction

The Conversation Nigeria Needed Before 2027 We are reliving moments from the conversation that brought citizens closer to the law that governs their vote, and emphasised the responsibility we have of protecting it. Nine days ago, citizens and electoral stakeholders gathered at the Citizens’ Townhall on the Electoral Act 2026 to unpack what the new law means for the integrity of the 2027 elections. The conversation was clear. Electoral law is not abstract policy. It determines how votes are accredited, counted, transmitted, collated, and declared — and why citizens must remain informed and vigilant. #ElectoralAct2026 #CitizensTownhall #ElectoralIntegrity #DemocracyInAction

In most states, every single elected assembly member crossed over. Not one stayed. The people you voted for took your mandate and walked. So as you start this week, think hard about who you're handing that mandate to in 2027.

Democracy assumes elected officials represent the will of those who voted them in. Defection severs that link without asking you. This is Nigeria's crisis of mandate.
