Religious Leaders’ Message at the #CitizensTownhall: Representing the Chief Imam of Ado-Ekiti, Imam Aliya Razaq Kolawole says Islam is a religion of peace that teaches justice, honesty, accountability, and peaceful leadership. He appealed to residents of Ekiti State to come out peacefully on Election Day, reject violence, and uphold peace throughout the electoral process. Also speaking, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Aribasoye noted that gone are the days when Christians viewed politics as a “dirty game,” stressing that churches now encourage members not only to vote, but also to actively participate and seek elective office. According to him, “elections will come and go, those who will win will win, but no life is worth losing because of elections.”

Speaking on election security and incident reporting, particularly around vote-buying, CP Michael Falade says merely reporting misconduct to police personnel stationed at polling units may not always lead to immediate action. According to him, once an officer leaves a polling unit to respond to a complaint elsewhere, “more atrocities can be committed” in the officer’s absence. Speaking further on insecurity issues in primaries, the CP described such situations as “more of a husband-and-wife affair,” noting that the police do not interfere in such matters as much. He also shared the police control room number for citizens to report incidents requiring immediate attention: 08062335577. #CitizensTownhall

While declining to disclose full operational details, he warned that anyone attempting to disrupt the electoral process would be apprehended, stressing that perpetrators “will be unable to escape our team.” He added that the peaceful conduct of political campaigns across the state so far is already an indication of the preparedness of security agencies, noting that no major violence has been recorded since campaigns commenced. #CitizensTownhall
