Last year I decided I was no longer satisfied just posting about housing. So I started a company with 3 other incredible dudes with the mission to build missing-middle housing at scale. Introducing... The American Housing Corporation It’s time to rebuild the American Dream.
The American Housing Corporation@americanhousing

For a half-century, America has critically under-built family-sized housing in our most dynamic cities and neighborhoods, rendering them childless and unaffordable. It's time to save the American Dream. Introducing The American Housing Corporation.

The coming YIMBY consensus is a bright spot of hope amongst the dark landscape of 2020s American politics. But we cannot rest! The NIMBYs haven't gone away; we've only beaten them back, temporarily. We must keep pushing for policies and reforms that make it easier to build!

The left’s housing civil war is ending: "For a decade, progressives argued over whether greedy landlords or blocked construction caused the housing crisis. Zohran Mamdani and Nithya Raman say the answer is both." politico.com/news/2026/03/0…

You leave off 2 important things. Texas banned inclusionary zoning and rent control. Credit the left in Austin for allowing density (yay) but they likely would have shot selves in foot with dumb leftist "affordability" policy unless Texas took gun away. YIMBY's need to call out bad policy consistently !

This is awesome... but if I may, I'd like to suggest adding one more (highly whimsical) ADU typology: The Rooftop Dwelling Unit

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

If you own a home with a basement, attic, or backyard, chances are you’ve thought about using it to earn a little extra income or as space for a loved one. We want to make it as easy (and affordable) as possible for you to do that. NYC recently legalized ADUs — but for too many New Yorkers, they’re still tied up in bureaucracy and expense. We're fixing that. Our new toolkit at nyc.gov/aduforyou includes preapproved building plans and a financing calculator so you can get right to building. If we want New York to remain a city for everyone, we have to make it easier for homeowners to stay here. ADU for You will do just that.

@YIMBYLAND @buildhomez Isn't part of the drop in rent also because of a collapse in demand? The Austin results are a result of a supply glut + falling demand. The results in the Fishtown area of Philadelphia seem more like a "normal" result of supply glut + stable demand (-10% growth in rents)

YIMBYs often point to Austin as a success But they can't point to a single reform that fundamentally changed or upzoned Austin in the 2020's, because it doesn't exist. So why is Austin considered such a YIMBY success?

We will simply go because we are Human. We are built for exploration, and the stars beckon, just as the New World beckoned centuries ago. Reject the idea that robots will replace us. Burn the notion that they will render us redundant. Embrace your Humanity.
roon@tszzl

the romantic human aspect of space colonization-placing our flags on other worlds-is redundant with robots and Von Neumann replicators unfortunately. the mars colony will be robots. ppl can join, but as consumers of an experience rather than critical parts of novel adventures

How about we call it 1st Street ? We don’t need to rename it to honor someone the majority of the city doesn’t even know. Council should focus on real things.
Marc Duchen@Marc4AustinD10

I strongly support those #ATXCouncil members who have called for the renaming of Cesar Chavez Street. They've proposed a community-driven process that takes place without delay, and I look forward to joining it.

@MikeFellman Wrong. Even given the oversupply, permitting in Austin right now is at the same levels as the 2000s peaks. Permitting in Austin right now is twice the level of the national average. The 2020s floor is as high as the 2000s ceiling.

+ Don't get complacent. Just because you made a couple reforms, doesn't mean you're done. Keep streamlining processes, cutting red tape, and eliminating burdensome fees. Don't stop.
