1. Definitely learn how computers work, that includes installing and trouble shooting operating systems software and hardware. This is essential prerequisite knowledge. 2. You don't necessarily have to learn sequentially. I see way too many people learning html, css, Javascript then picking PHP, Python or Javascript as a backend language and immediately jumping into Laravel, Django or Express with no real understanding of the language they are using. For the record I am self taught and have never studied html, css or Javascript. 3. You certainly don't need react, Node or express they are not mandatory. Node / Express is certainly better than PHP/Laravel or Python/Django. Is it the right choice for everything? Almost certainly not! 4. Learning how to write your own Authentication system and properly secure your application is a must! 5. Docker is handy. Again its not mandatory at least for a beginner who should be concentrating on learning a language and not a framework, yes there is a distinction. 6. AI is relatively new, its evolving at a pace that makes it hard to keep up. Use AI as a teacher. I am not a vibe coder and up until now I've avoided AI. I do realise I need to get on board. 7. I agree that building is how you will get to learn. Since retiring I've taught myself Go and now I am transitioning to Rust. In both cases I have not used Frameworks I've used the official Language tutorial. The first thing I did was to jump to the chapter that shows you how to start a http server, next I added all the programming challenges to this project, the aim being to have a functional web site running by the end of the official tutorial. Of course it does not end there. I waited 5yrs for my 2006 model HP-Proliant to go to computer heaven, it had not been able to run the latest versions of Ubuntu during this time. But in all honesty this ageing dinosaur was quite fast enough to undertake the tasks demanded of it. My new 12 core AMD powered machine really does not feel any quicker. If you look closer, throw some real work at it and look at the results the reality becomes clearer. The difference between 133ms and 18ms isn't obvious to a human observer but its significant in terms of efficiency at scale. Its why I would never use PHP, Python, Ruby, JavaScript for heavy compute. I've a Go and a Rust version of this code (shown below) which I wrote with out the use of AI. This morning I was looking for something to test the new Grok-build-0.1 Yes I am impressed that it altered the code and it compiled first time no errors! Yes Ive officialy entered the world of AI coding. I gave the new Grok my single threaded version of the Rust code and asked it to chunk the input file into 6 parts process each part in a separate thread and recombine the results. Go takes 133ms using three threads Rust was taking around 50ms it is now taking 20-30 ms using six threads. #Programming, #Rust, #WebDev, #WebDevelopment

I am now fully convinced major fraud is taking place in North Carolina crime stats. Last night, I was researching a case when I kept noticing something odd. A Hispanic suspect who was correctly labelled as "Hispanic" would strangely be "Caucasian" in other arrests. This happened more than once, so I started digging. Turns out, this CONSTANTLY. In fact, even when a suspect is clearly Hispanic, even has an ICE detainer, and the option for Ethnicity is available to pick "H" (Hispanic)... they are OFTEN labelled as "Caucasian". I didn't come across this once or twice. I saw it hundreds and hundreds of times... the option to pick "Hispanic" is there, they just aren't using it. They are purposely choosing the label of "WHITE CAUCASIAN" to identify CLEARLY Hispanic criminal illegal aliens from OTHER COUNTRIES. This is massive fraud.

I've got one of my two Go applications back up and running after my 2006 model server crashed. This app is now running on Win 11 under WSL and Ubuntu. Whats interesting is the time being reported to calculate what set of five numbers have been drawn the most often. Basically this problem was an exercise in multi threading its is quite compute intensive. On my old PC with 4 cores this was taking over 73ms to complete. This 12 Core machine is taking 6ms and I could throw more cores at it! The same code written using Javascript is taking over 200 ms on a intel i7 What is surprising in ten years of data the most any set of 5 numbers have turned up is 3!

I am a retired Mining engineer that taught himself how to program. I did get disillusioned with the mining industry in the mid nineties and swapped into IT. You wont find me developing sites using WIX, Wordpress, Shopify, Laravel or Django, Lovable or 8n8. I believe JavaScript belongs in the Frontend where it was designed to be used. Nowhere else. While its of little use without further Branding and modification to suite individual use cases it offers a huge head start to developing a Rust Based site.
