@smitaprakash Never expected this. Now it will be a trend to use violence and hooliganism to repeal any law which is passed by parliament. This has marked victory of Middlemen, left wing, and those so called farmer leaders. I'm sorry to say but Namo also lack spine. IT Cell start working fast.

True, ma’am. Who can forget the 2008 Wimbledon final played at Delhi Gymkhana, widely regarded as the greatest tennis match ever played, where Nadal defeated Federer 6–4, 6–4, 6–7(5–7), 6–7(8–10), 9–7 in a five-hour marathon. Nadal even thanked the then Cabinet Secretary for the excellently organized match.

You will appreciate what life has to offer much better if you ever made a 36+ hr journey in 2nd class sleeper across India in peak summers. If by any chance you fall asleep, the seat sticks to your skin. You are forever short of water, the window is like a 21 inch hair dryer. You wish to splash your face with water for some respite, the water in the sink is boiling. The only respite is the guys moving around with buckets with icy water, with an assortment of cold drink bottle submerged in it, sold at the rate of an arm & a leg. You settle for a chilled Frooti. It tastes so godly that you write about it on Twitter 20 years later :)

An old man in our neighborhood died today. He was hospitalized with chest pain three days ago, underwent angioplasty, but passed away in the ICU. His wife had died during the COVID wave, and he had been living alone since then. His only son lives in Australia and couldn’t come to see his father. Now, I’m not saying that the son is uncaring or abandoned his parents. I don’t know him. Maybe he is really a nice man. The elderly couple used to visit him every year and spend a few months with him. But maybe once you build a life outside, you can’t really come back. Life, distance, responsibilities, things become complicated. The son hadn’t come to India in nearly 10 years. He couldn’t come for his mother’s last rites due to COVID travel restrictions, and I don’t even know if he’ll be able to come now or will have to arrange his father’s last rites from there itself. This has stayed with me all day. To think of an old man spending his final years largely alone, losing his partner, and then leaving this world without his son by his side. Even as an unrelated observer, the whole thing feels unbearably sad.

-Last month, Australian Prime Minister, while addressing the nation, urged civilians to help conserve fuel. -Thailand’s PM urged people to work from home amid fears of an energy crisis. -Sri Lanka declared Wednesdays off as Asian countries tried to conserve fuel. -The European Commission urged people to work from home, drive less, and fly less. -Shops, restaurants, and cafés in Egypt were told to close early as part of temporary measures to combat soaring energy prices. -Philippine President introduced a temporary 4-day work week in government offices due to the ongoing Middle East crisis and its impact. Many other major countries have taken similar steps, their Public and opposition supported them. PM @narendramodi urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption and adopt work from home where possible, But @RahulGandhi and liberals are calling it a sign of a failed economy and compromised PM.🤡 God should never give any country such a clown opposition.🙏🙏

Just ask the corporate sector to implement WFH, prepone summer vacations in schools, introduce a 5-day work week in all government offices, and have government staff work in alternating shifts at 50% strength. Promote EV cab services too (really missing BluSmart right now). That alone would make a significant difference. No need to create unnecessary panic. And above all, please lead by example.

Yesterday: 200 units of free electricity per month. Today: 200 units of free electricity for a two-month period—and that too, only if consumption remains below 500 units. A lie in the very first signature 🤦‍♂️

What TN has shown today, rest of India has been doing for decades. Hindu majority states of Rajasthan, Bihar, Assam, Maharashtra and even Manipur have had Muslim Chief Ministers. Hindu majority Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Kerala have given many Christian Chief ministers. TN is just a new entry to that old club. But the real question worth probing is: how many Muslim majority or Christian majority states have given any Hindu Chief Minister? Zero. Forget Chief Minister, how many Hindu MPs or MLAs have ever been elected from a Muslim majority or Christian majority lok sabha or vidhan sabha seats?? Next to Zero.
Rajdeep Sardesai@sardesairajdeep

A Qs for those living outside Tamil Nadu: would any other major state welcome as chief minister in today’s India someone whose full name is Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay . What TN has shown today, may India do tomorrow: respect our unique multi-religious, multi-cultural diversity and give everyone a fair shot at their dreams. ⭐️👍

In his first speech as Tamil Nadu chief minister, Vijay said that he grew up in poverty, and that he even knows what hunger is. It's bullshit because he was my classmate in the third standard in Loyola School. His father was a filmmaker who set up his son for a career in films. It is possible that like most filmmakers his father may have had periods of financial strife but that's not the same as Tamil-grade poverty. A lot of affluent boys confuse being broke with poverty. Two very different things.

Dear @TRAI, Imagine your recharge plan is going to expire in 2 days. Imagine someone is following your sister late at night, and she is trying to call you for help. Imagine you are injured on the road and desperately trying to call a family member. But before the call even connects, telecom companies play long warnings like “your plan is expiring soon, please recharge” in two languages. During this warning, the actual call does not connect, and valuable time gets wasted. In emergency situations, even a few seconds matter. These repeated recharge reminders are extremely frustrating. We already know when to recharge. Customers should not be forced to listen to long, nonsensical warnings. Please order all telecom companies to immediately stop these nonsense warnings before calls, or allow the call to connect while the warning plays in the background. Be serious.

@theskindoctor13 With so many parties involved and your majority mark depends on those parties, it isn’t even remotely possible. With just one party leaving your govt will fall. You need absolute majority for excellent governance. More or less similar to what the central govt is facing after 2024

TVK supporters have a child-like enthusiasm in believing that, just like in movies, Vijay will clean up the system, fire incompetents, stop corruption, bring sweeping reforms, and turn Tamil Nadu into Singapore in no time. Not happening, folks. Politics doesn’t work like a three-hour movie where one angry hero walks into the Secretariat, smashes tables, suspends corrupt officers, and fixes decades of institutional rot by the interval. The system eventually absorbs everyone. Bureaucracy, caste equations, party pressures, coalition compulsions, lobbying networks, corruption ecosystems, unions, contractors, media management, and cadre appeasement, this machinery is far bigger than one celebrity with mass dialogues and fan clubs. So keep your expectations low. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong, though.

In Tamil Nadu, the BJP being in power at the centre has been used by essentially all the parties to demonize them. The DMK made "attack Modi" as their only plank. EdappadiDMK (that is the correct name) would have done the same thing if the Congress had switched over to them. In Tamil, we call this பூச்சாண்டி காட்டுதல் - like my grandmother would tell me as a kid "that tree next to the pond has a ghost that will catch you, so don't go near it" to keep me away from swimming in the pond! Modi is their favorite பூச்சாண்டி. So when someone parrots the line "we want to keep the BJP out of Tamil Nadu", they are saying "we don't want competition for our cozy duopoly", not some deep principle. The BJP has been in alliance in AP and Pondicherry and those states are doing fine, they are making excellent progress. Yet TN is supposedly "different". The "difference" was the BJP getting into alliance with these same parties (EDMK or DMK) that want to openly or secretly suppress them in TN. What is the way ahead? Find good youthful passionate leadership that are willing to fight the good fight long term. Focus on building up the party from the grassroots. Ignore all the பூச்சாண்டி business. Do not align with anyone who claims "TN is different". TN is Bharat. We have to fight this subterranean separatism. Annamalai was making progress but he needed a lot more time. He was creating a genuine political movement, he invited youth to be active in politics and he had massive engagement. I would have volunteered for this assignment too (I love building up from zero!) but I am neck deep in tech and Bharat needs deep tech. So not in this life time. To be very clear, I will state my political views (my right to free speech) but I will not be in active politics. I hope all our educated citizens do engage in this political debate and express their opinions, but let us all do it RESPECTFULLY.

Shashi's long post of secularism cannot hide a simple fact about Kerala elections: Hindus elected Muslims Muslims elected Christians Christians elected Muslims BUT Together, Christians and Muslims did NOT elect Hindus. Kerala demonstrated what has been the standard of Indian secularism.
Shashi Tharoor@ShashiTharoor

One #KeralaStory from the recent election results that communalists should note: a Muslim majority constituency, Thavanur, elected a Christian, VS Joy; a Hindu majority constituency, Kalamassery, elected a Muslim. VE Abdul Gafoor; and a Christian majority constituency, Kochi, elected a Muslim, Muhammed Shiyas. Despite some influence from the national trends in favour of identity politics, Kerala remains a model of communal harmony, a state where people see human beings first and caste or religion later @incindia @inckerala

What will didi do now? She can't go to the Assembly because she lost the election. If she makes one of her MLAs resign to fight a bypoll, Suvendu Adhikari will stand against her and defeat her for the third time. She can't ask any of her Rajya Sabha MPs to resign and make way for her because she no longer has a majority in the Bengal Assembly, and BJP would snatch that seat if fresh Rajya Sabha elections are held due to resignation. She can't go to the Lok Sabha either till at least 2029. So where will she go after getting up every day?

The results of the recent state elections have been dramatic by any measure. But for me, this image will remain the most unforgettable outcome of the elections. More than 166,000 votes were cast between the two leading candidates in this constituency in Tamil Nadu. And history was changed by just one vote. This image should be shown in every school in the country & perhaps around the world. So that every child understands that when they grow up, the greatest power they may possess is the Power of One. The power of their one vote.

@Iyervval Sidelining him was the biggest mistake. TVK got the fruits from the seeds sown by Annamalai. Vijay is popular and he would have done good but winning 100+ seats is something different. It would have been BJP instead of TVK if Annamalai was still leading.

Remember who created the “vaccum” in Tamil Nadu? It was Annamalai. His 18.5% vote share in 2024 in a BJP centric alliance showed that there was a huge gap. He was sidelined & punished for doing exactly what the BJP did (and succeeded) in Bengal.

Remember this face? She was an 85-year-old Shova Majumdar, who was beaten mercilessly by TMC goons ahead of the 2021 West Bengal elections, simply because her son was a BJP worker. She later died from her injuries. At that time, the so-called 'save constitution, save democracy' brigade chose to remain mere spectators.
