This summer, @NOAASBNMS is tagging seabirds! This video shows the tags outside while their GPS function calibrates. These are placed on the shearwaters backs using degradable thread. Small and lightweight, equipped with mini solar panels, they don't interfere with flight. (2/3)

We use magnetometry to reconstruct fine-scale flight paths of #condors. Birds were more likely to flap in glides between thermals than between slopes bc “hotspots” are not always hot when birds need them to be! Reward Vs Risk in soaring! bit.ly/3fr9vUh #newpaper joy!
