Carlos Lagrange is showing everyone that he’s ready for MLB. Thoughts on his promising spring and strike-zone approach: 👇 patreon.com/posts/carlos-l…

@jeff_zweig There is a lot more to this move though. Roster status, control. This was an obvious decision based on those factors.

@miketee2356 Service time is probably a reason as well. I don't think Lagrange had any real shot at being a roster add.

@YankeeSource Leave it to the Yankees to keep Winquest because Cashman has to prove how smart he was to take him in R5 instead of Lagrange who was easily the most impressive pitcher in camp.

@YankeeSource Fernando Cruz is the 7th or 8th inning set up man not the last bullpen spot unless you mean someone else

Cade Winquest has had an advantage because of his Rule 5 status, but he doesn’t deserve an Opening Day roster spot. Bird or Cruz makes more sense for that last bullpen spot.

The Yankees spring offense was a lot more entertaining with Spencer Jones in the lineup every day.

@DonnieCollinsTT I feel a bit more bullish on Weathers than Gil right now, but neither have shown much. Warren looks like the better starter and that’s okay. Weathers in a pen role at some point wouldn’t hurt the Yanks.

@YankeeSource I would have put someone like Will Warren in that category a few years ago. Stuff was always great, and he'd get hit hard start after start anyway. He turned it around. Different scenarios obviously, but not all hope is lost for Weathers. I'd give Lagrange a look. Right now.

This guy is going to drive fans to the brink. The metrics are always going to be on his side, and the org will give him plenty of chances. But actual results don't back up the stuff those metrics insist he has, and generally haven't throughout his big league career.

It was a strange start for Weathers. He had 11 whiffs and 78% first pitch strikes. His stuff looks good, but the results are poor. Really good hitting by the Jays as usual.

Giancarlo Stanton has hit some lasers in recent days that resulted in outs. Hit one 110.5 mph today (HR in 23/30 parks) which resulted in a flyout.

Weathers will need to delete this start from his mind.

@ChrisCoop_ Yea, that’s unfair to him as well. He’s a 26 year old pitcher trying to get established. No need for crazy reaches right now.

I didn't think the pitch was terrible but he did leave it down compared to where the catcher was set up. But forget the results of this specific game, I think in general the expectations for him are too unrealistic for his body of work put out. Like I I've seen the whole "dark horse cy young" thing, I've seen some posts saying he could see a Garret Crochet-like rise...just think it's all a bit much.

Man Ryan Weathers has really struggled this Spring Training. Just gave up a nuke to Dalton Varsho in the 1st inning. The stuff is exciting, the upside is obvious and everyone knows it. But I feel like everyone's gotta temper their expectations for him a little bit. I'm seeing him thrown into Dark Horse Cy Young convos and it just feels silly. He's yet to throw above 100 IP in any season and he's still a project arm at the end of the day. The NYY pitching dev is strong enough to be confident they can get him right but I think it's delusional to think he's going to take such a jump out of ST this year.

@BrendonLeslie Internal brace helped the recovery time as well. Good to see the entire recovery process become smoother and it seems like pitchers will find a lot of success post TJ as well.

@YankeeSource It’s amazing how far they’ve come with Tommy John surgeries. It’s almost like a reset on his arm.
