Built By Institutions, For Institutions, But Soliciting Funds From YOU While you’re out there depositing for points, large institutions like Wintermute already own the future supply. Today I woke up to a comment from one of the founders of @bulktrade saying: “We have never, and will never do any private token deals, paid marketing or deliver any program that isn’t publicly available to everyone.” Knowing this was an absolute falsehood, I pushed back. What about when BULK raised $8M from firms like Wintermute? He immediately backtracked, accused me of being intentionally oblivious, and said he was obviously only referencing deals that haven’t been publicly disclosed. But that is exactly the point. The deal with institutions like Wintermute are not publicly disclosed. All we know is that they helped fund the eventual product. So while over 10,000 retail users are depositing money into @bulktrade to farm “points,” large institutions already have economic rights under deal terms that have not been disclosed. On a project that has been raising money since 2024. And why does this concern me so much? Besides the obvious fact that retail users should not be testing new protocol security for “points,” it is the fact that retail is not even who they claim to have built this for in the first place. In a very direct question, I asked him: “You say you have a compelling answer to the question of ‘why would I switch?’ What is that answer? What are you building that fundamentally benefits traders, the end user, that is different?” His response was to point me to his May 27th post, where he made it very clear that they believe the product-market fit is institutions. In the thesis he posted, there is no mention of ordinary traders. Okay, so you've built something with a target market of institutions, whales & MMs. Got it. That's fine, by the way. Build for whoever you want. But then do not come to retail asking them to deposit funds, farm points, test your protocol risk, and pretend this is some equal playing field where everyone is showing up at the same starting line. Because they aren't. Wintermute and other institutions got in long before retail did. They funded the product. They got the private, undisclosed deal. Retail gets points, without even any visibility into VC unlock schedules or deal terms. The question is not whether BULK can build a good product. Maybe they can. The question is why retail is being sold the dream of fair access while the real economics were already decided behind closed doors. And until those deal terms are disclosed, I do not think that is an unfair question. I think it is the only question that matters. 🫡 From the depths — The White Whale 🐋
