I wonder if artists being accused of gatekeeping re:AI is a byproduct of the misconception that art requires 'talent'. That ability to make art is nature's lottery that can only be rebeled against with AI. That's false, it's a teachable skill. Example,my art at 16 vs today at 31.

Junior portfolios at top studios can fit right in next to your art heroes in a book, or look so bad (subjective) you don’t know why they were hired.
This is because social media inflates good illustration as the goalpost, and for a concept role, that is often the wrong goal. 1/
