Mind you they are gonna have more F-16’s than Aim-120C8’s And it doesn’t just stop at AMRAAMS, they also only bought like just 40 ATACMS SRBM’s and just 36 GMLRS’s for their 18 HIMARS deal !!!!

Also morocco has a very weird table terms for the military Their acquisitions sometimes make absolutely no sense when it comes to quantity for munitions For example , their latest request (and the only and first ever one) for Aim-120C8 (export of D3) was only 30 units???

IMO, it’s not just training and equipment — the Moroccan military is sort’ve an oversized ‘Palace Army’, in the style of the Gulf militaries. They have a handful of large military schools located in large cities (now, that’s not too out of the ordinary, but it’s a problem when you’re trying to scale a large military). Their combat brigades are concentrated in a relatively small number of bases, which doesn’t seem like a problem until you look at these bases and see that “oh, they store their armored vehicles outside in giant ‘blow me up’ clusters.” Another “ehhhhh” example, they stash their 20 something F-16s at at most 2 airbases — great for maintenance and logistics, not great if you don’t want them all to be blown up. The Algerian military doesn’t really have the same problems. For the regular army and naval infantry, for most of their units their material is stored under cover/inside. Their larger formations have their own campuses the size of small towns, and they’re split-up/well distributed. Every branch and sub-branch of the Algerian military has its own college (there’s even a dedicated school for military communications, and another school for military basing/castrametation). It’s very much a miniature Soviet Red Army, except they actually seem to maintain their shit.

Algeria reinforced its missile force with Iskander-E🇷🇺 as an answer to Morocco’s growing strike mix of ATACMS🇺🇸, LORA🇮🇱, and PULS🇮🇱. But without domestic production, neither side could sustain missile use in a prolonged conflict. Local manufacturing would be the real game changer

@Yepmtnf @AnalyticaCamil1 @VetTx23 I will note it was a Rosboronexport press release that claimed it was the export version. The Algerians publicizing the testing was what tipped everyone off to the fact that it was not, in fact, the MTCR compliant version. They haven't done public Iskander tests, yet.

Was thinking about the Ceuta and Melila incident some more, and I just have no idea what Morocco was playing at. Like a tenth of Ceuta and Melila’s territories are straight-up military bases (or gendarmerie bases). Each one of them has an entire combined arms brigade worth of Spanish soldiers (with at least one active armor, mechanized, and motorized battalion each — expandable in wartime) — i.e. they’re the core for about two divisions worth of guys. Each of these kernel divisions is more capable than their Moroccan counterparts (just across the board, they have better training, equipment and they’re organized better). And they’re not there to invade Morocco (their footprint isn’t large enough to do that, presumably by design) — and presumably, if Algeria were to invade Morocco (the Algerian military is also substantially more capable than the Moroccan military), these Spanish troops are slotted to be deployed to repel them. Trying to take a steamy dump over the proverbial cavalry is just fundamentally nonsensical on Rabat’s part.

I don’t think Gerard wants to learn why the Moroccan government (Israel’s closest and only consistent ally in MENA) scooped up 60k of its own citizens and told them to “go enter Spain.” Now, personally, I’m not opposed to that wave of migrants — it was a bunch of young probably decently well-educated dudes, and God knows the EU needs the labor. But this was in effect an actual invasion — not the “migrant invasions” that hare-brained far righters whine about. The Moroccan government announced on social media “hey, anyone who wants to can enter Ceuta today”, and had its gendarmes (read, armed government officials) truck whoever showed up over to the border, and told them where to go. This wasn’t a wave of people who were organically fleeing somewhere or something (as most refugees or economic migrants are).

@soil_owner @AnalyticaCamil1 @VetTx23 Obviously but a strike from one iskander would be less devastating as it was before when they just put em all on the tarmac And iskander E doesnt have the sufficient range to strike this airbase (its around 360km far from the Border)

@Yepmtnf @AnalyticaCamil1 @VetTx23 These are useful for repelling drone attacks and strikes with cluster munitions, but will not hold up vs. a unitary HE warhead plunging through the roof at mach ~4.5, as Iskander is wont to do.

The fastest way for Ukraine to stop Russian ballistic missiles is to integrate ERAM air-launched missiles with F-16s. F-16s could then hit Russian launchers before they fire on Ukrainian cities, Mark Montgomery writes in The Washington Post. 1/

@VetTx23 @soil_owner I also have it on impeccable authority that they normally store their Apaches separately from both their radars and munitions (at bases on different sides of the country). Their F-16s (of which, they have two dozen) are mostly stored out in the open on tarmacs.
