35 million UK iPhone users now have to provide a credit card or ID just to use their phone normally. The recent update mentioned new emojis & updates to Apple Music, only for users to be confronted with an Age Verification screen. Apple said UK law requires this. It doesn't.

@romain280_ All browsers on iOS have to use Webkit (unless your device is Jailbroken, in which case you wouldn't be worrying about any of this), which is a web rendering agent Apple control. In other words, no matter the browser the adult content filter would be applied.

@shashlicker I'm not in any way saying I approve of Apple's decision. I'm completely against Digital ID/online age verification of any kind - Parents should be responsible for their kids. I'm simply pointing out saying that everyone has to provide a credit card or ID is misleading.

@Kaan_x000 While they've jumped the gun here, Ofcom were investigating having it as a requirement with the report on that due next year (spoiler: Labour will almost certainly say it is one). Ofcom were undoubtedly inspired by it being a legal requirement in California on 1st January 2027.
