@lupardus_tim @rootbeerbog @GenelJumalon You missed my point. While I do hate it, I do accept there isn't much I can do about it. The issue is the guy who won the contest claims to be an artist. He's not and thus should not win. He deserves to win as as much as an interior designer in a furniture making contest.

@Yeti4Business @rootbeerbog @GenelJumalon Are the pictures of lesser intrinsic value? No - they are not. Suck it up, butter cup. This is what you gotta deal with and that with which you must compete. I don't like it so much either, but rage against the machine all you want - it isn't gonna notice.

TL;DR — Someone entered an art competition with an AI-generated piece and won the first prize. Yeah that's pretty fucking shitty.

@KavehP2 @rootbeerbog @GenelJumalon I mention a drone in that you still need to bring the camera to the subject matter. An autonomous drone would remove the need for human involvement. Other than just picking the best images.

@Yeti4Business @rootbeerbog @GenelJumalon I understand that, but i think the analogy goes further than what these AI-models do. Why think of a drone ?My camera is already fully automated : it can take bazillions of pictures, and automatically translate the environment light into a photorealistic grid of RGB values.

@Yeti4Business @VexingLive @GenelJumalon What's the difference between using photoshop to add effects that you aren't capable of recreating by hand? It's literally a program that is creating a visual effect for me, I'm just directing it.

@rootbeerbog @GenelJumalon The problem with this situation is more "who is the artist?" The AI produced pieces good enough to win. The problem comes to the person submitting claims to be the artist when they actually did very little in creating the work.

@Yeti4Business @GenelJumalon Maybe…? The question though, is whether or not the product/image is art. I feel like these AI art debates revolve around the old question of what is art in the first place

@JasonBe01306124 @VexingLive @GenelJumalon Everyone has ideas, it doesn't make them an artist. Execution does. The executive chef has proven that they are able to create and have earned the right to delegate. Also, are those under him not considered artists? You would need some talent/skill to perform in a pro kitchen.

@Yeti4Business @VexingLive @GenelJumalon The person who supplies the idea is the artist. In a professional kitchen of high end restaurants everyone recognizes the chef as the artist… but does he actually cook anything? No. The cooks cook the chef’s ideas. AI gen art is no different afaik 🤷‍♂️

@rootbeerbog @GenelJumalon Say someone has a drone. This drone is fully autonomous, it can go out for weeks on autopilot and take pictures. It can also adjust images to a set of astetic parameters so no editing is needed, it just delivers pics ready to sell. Is the owner a photographer?

@GenelJumalon Question for people against AI image art, do you think photography isn’t art either?

@VexingLive @GenelJumalon The problem is that it isn't just a tool. The program is the artist, the applicant just submitted prompts. The equivlant would be an painter asking someone for advice on what to paint. Does that make the artist the one who supplies the ideas or the one who actually makes it?

@GenelJumalon There is quite literally nothing wrong with this. Should the person have been more upfront about the tools they used? Probably. But ai is just that: a tool. The same way I use oil as a tool, the same way a photographer uses photoshops burn tool as a tool. Art is art.
