@by_JBH @TheLeapGB I can't shake the feeling that it is epic cope to believe that the team voluntarily played weaker at LT in order to give Morgan a shot at being a bad guard. Walker won the job. I know he did because he played the position. And he kept the position even when he didn't play well.

Brian Gutekunst said Jordan Morgan "probably did enough" to start over Rasheed Walker in 2025. The choice to start Walker anyway reveals some things about the offense. For @TheLeapGB: What last year's left-tackle discourse suggests about the 2026 Packers theleap.football/p/what-last-ye…

@mattyglesias self-reported preferences are almost entirely irrelevant. You need revealed preferences through behavior. Most people have no idea why they do most of the things they do; and they don't act how they assume they would act given any number of presented circumstances.

@Peter_Bukowski if asked, the Packers coach--based on previous experience--would indeed not tell you anything useful. They can all play every position, they'd remind us.

@MarkOldacres I would guess that the context of this conversation was the Athletic Football Podcast when they stated that the NFC North has the best pass catchers of any division because the Packers are ~probably~ worst but still very good. I wouldn't overthink it

Heard someone say the Packers have the worst pass catchers in the NFC North (it’s a high bar) and my immediate thought was, are they worse than the Bears? Watson v Odunze Golden v Burden Reed v Raymond Kraft v Loveland Can argue most either way, Raymond defo the weakest one.

@StevePalazzolo_ counterpoint: Ron Wolf traded for Brett Favre, drafted Mark Brunell, Matt Hasselbeck, Aaron Brooks, and Ty Detmer. Signed Kurt Warner as an UDFA Also drafted Craig Nall (5th), Ron McAda (7th), Kyle Wachholtz (7th), Jay Barker (5th) Sample size and success rate

Very good point. Worst Packers OL in a LONG time last year.
John Kramer🧀@KramerTheFirst

@Peter_Bukowski “unless the OL completely implodes, which cost them two games last year” At least 3. The Eagles game. The Browns game. The Bears playoff game. Possibly you could put the Broncos game in that bucket too.

@ByRyanWood I'm annoyed that we can't watch these ourselves and I have to bug reporters on twitter, but how much was Butkus pushed on how last year's play compared to "the standard" or expectations and what specifically will change to meet the standard this year?

#Packers OL coach Luke Butkus said focal points with unit this offseason are leverage, fundamentals and emphasizing standard. He has no doubts this offensive line is capable of meeting level of play expected in 2026.

@wendellfp His pass rate over expectation in 2nd & long is more of the middle of the pack according to this chart. Ranked 20th out of 32.

@Peter_Bukowski Do we ACTUALLY believe that a player won the LT battle and the team was like "ya know what? We really need him to be a below-average RG for us instead. That's the best 5. Morgan may play well, but we need to let go of this fantasy that he was better than Walker all along

Morgan outplayed Walker in camp/preseason and when he played OT last year Franklin and St. Juste are clear upgrades (I never bought Quay hype). Gary fell off a cliff. Clear upgrade at DT. Replacing Doubs with 1st round talent.
Peter Bukowski@Peter_Bukowski

The Packers Rasheed Walker --> Jordan Morgan Quay Walker --> Zaire Franklin Romeo Doubs --> Matthew Golden Dontayvion Wicks --> Savion Williams/Skyy Moore Nate Hobbs --> Benjamin St. Juste Rashan Gary --> LVN + Javon Hargrave + Watson/Parsons/Kraft/Tom/Wyatt back

@McShay13 @ringer @yougoodmuench Genuine question: Do way-too-early mocks do numbers? Who are they for? Everyone seems to put them out, so I have to assume they do. But it just is fundamentally not the content I have ever craved in the immediate aftermath of my team adding brand new players for this year.

@Peter_Bukowski The only "pressure" on Watson is to be healthy. When he's been healthy, he's already been everything he needs to be for the team to succeed.

A defense-heavy draft and a vote of confidence from the GM now has a LOT of pressure on Christian Watson to deliver on his promise as a true WR1 for the #Packers offense. youtu.be/mbOVGsvXRo4

@PackADayPodcast @AndyHermanNFL Keylan Rutledge, Gennings Dunker, and Jager Burton are more Packersy, for instance. Diego Pounds and Fernando Carmona are even a little more Packersy, measurably.

@RossUglem Correct; the Packers have consistently been going large since 2022. They have only sacrificed athletic thresholds for UDFA (Telfort, Jones), Cole Madison in Gutey's first draft, and Glover (6th round)

this is a bit overblown. Morgan was a Super Packer John Williams was a Super Packer Belton isn’t weird for them if he’s a guard (he is) Monk was a Super Packer
Adam Watts@adamhwatts

@RossUglem They also didn't like XXL offensive linemen at all, ever, until all of a sudden they only want XXL offensive linemen. I am just throwing out everything I think I know about Green Bay's OL tendnecies.

Rule of thumb: If a player massively falls due to off field, injury, gas mask, etc… the Packers will not be the team to stop his fall. The Packers are usually more cautious with that than most teams. If he’s there at 52 (I don’t think he will be), he’ll likely be there at 53.
