🚨 No Consensus Reached as Yobe G-6 Insists on Direct Primaries After Meeting With VP Shettima The Yobe State G-6 has reaffirmed its commitment to participating in the forthcoming APC governorship primaries through a free, fair, and transparent direct primary process. This was contained in a press release issued after an extensive meeting held today with Vice President Kashim Shettima over the ongoing gubernatorial impasse in Yobe State. In the statement, the group commended the Vice President for his statesmanship, commitment to peace, democratic values, fairness, and efforts aimed at resolving the political situation in the state. The G-6 stated that its remaining members had unanimously resolved to fully participate in the APC governorship primaries in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026 and the party’s guidelines governing direct primaries. The group also called on party supporters, stakeholders, and residents of Yobe State to remain calm, peaceful, law-abiding, and united ahead of the primaries scheduled for May 23, 2026. The statement further announced the voluntary withdrawal of one of its members, Alhaji Lawan Kolo Geidam, from the gubernatorial race in the interest of peace, unity, and democratic progress. According to the release, he pledged support for whoever emerges through a credible and transparent primary election. The G-6 assured the public that it would continue to provide updates on developments surrounding the APC governorship primaries in Yobe State. The statement was signed by 5 members of the G-6, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja, Hon. Bashir Sheriff Machina, retired IGP Usman Alkali Baba, and Kashim Musa Tumsah.

🚨 Hon. Lawan Kolo Geidam’s presence at the meeting where Vice President Kashim Shettima endorsed Baba Malam Wali has raised questions about his stance in the 2027 race. Observers are asking whether his attendance signals alignment with the consensus decision or an implied endorsement of Wali’s candidacy.

Over N5 billion was invested in reconstructing and upgrading the 27 August Stadium, Damaturu. It takes just one wind to expose the entire sub-standard project. This is a national embarrassment and a painful reminder of how public funds are squandered without accountability.

The collective voice of Yobeans must always remain SUPREME. Yobe State must allow democracy to thrive. No individual is more Yobean than another, and every citizen deserves an equal voice in determining the future of our state. Regardless of the outcome of the 2027 gubernatorial election, a free, fair, and competitive process will strengthen both our democracy and the internal democratic culture within our political system. Just as the government openly support or endorse a preferred candidate, every qualified citizen has the constitutional right to aspire, contest, and present their vision to the people of Yobe State. No one should be coerced, intimidated, or pressured into supporting any candidate against their will. Democracy flourishes only where freedom of choice and political participation are respected.

🚨RESPONSE BY THE G-6 TO THE STATEMENT OF HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR MAI MALA BUNI ON THE YOBE STATE GUBERNATORIAL SITUATION The G-6 wishes to respond to the statesmanlike statement issued by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, on the current political situation and gubernatorial process in the State, as follows: 1. We commend His Excellency for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to democratic principles. His acknowledgment and respect for the rights of all aspirants to contest in a free and fair gubernatorial primary is a demonstration of true statesmanship. 2. The G-6 firmly believes that the position articulated by His Excellency will, for the first time, afford the good people of Yobe State the opportunity to freely choose their candidates at all levels without fear or favour, in the overall interest of democracy and the sustainable development of the State. 3. We assure all citizens of Yobe State and Nigerians who believe in genuine democracy that the G-6 will work assiduously towards a peaceful, transparent, and credible process — whether through consensus or direct primaries — to produce the best and most acceptable gubernatorial candidate for Yobe State. 4. The G-6 therefore calls on the National Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure a level-playing field and a strictly free, fair, and democratic process in Yobe State, in full compliance with the Party’s Constitution and the forthcoming guidelines for the primaries.
