Startup based in the UK opened an office in Italy. Hired a local and within the 3 month ‘probationary’ period, things didn’t work out so terminated the employee. But because the company didn’t wait until the end of the 3rd month to terminate, employee sued the company who had to pay 3 years of salary. Strange Italian loophole of sorts. Holy Wow - that was an expensive hire! If you’re going to expand internationally, make sure you have solid legal guidance. I love Italy but this makes it hard to scale up there :(
