A New Ethiopian Insult to Egypt: Describing it as a “colonial state that has failed in leadership and imagination”!! Today, in a dangerous escalation, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs deliberately insulted the Egyptian state – its army, government, and people – by labeling it a “colonial state” and “a failure in leadership and imagination.” This statement, which must not be allowed to pass unnoticed and under no circumstances should be met with silence, represents Addis Ababa overstepping its size and stature by openly declaring the end of negotiations as we have known them. In my assessment, this statement is an attempt to impose a new legal and political fait accompli that completely eliminates any Egyptian role in the Nile Basin. The most dangerous aspect, however, is that it seeks to prepare Ethiopian public opinion and the international community to justify the sixth and even seventh filling of the dam without any coordination – and possibly to justify far more dangerous steps in the future. This irresponsible rhetoric paves the way for actual aggression against Egypt’s right to life. The Ethiopian regime must fully understand that our strategic patience with its nonsense and fabrications does not mean we will swallow insults and threats. This arrogant regime has gravely misread the lessons of history and geography alike, and has deliberately ignored the actual balance of power on the ground. Therefore, it must be presented with one choice only: force Ethiopia back to the negotiating table with binding guarantees, or bear the consequences of its decisions – consequences that will be catastrophic for it long before they are for Egypt. We are closer to you than you imagine, and our imagination and capabilities are far beyond your comprehension…
