Will NFTs ever come back? Or are we going from 5% worthless to 0%. Here's my thesis. The primary utility for most NFTs is social signalling. To signal your financial status, the values you believe in, your taste and the community you represent. Just like in the real world, we use watches, cars, art to signal things about us without having to say another word. Someone who wears a Richard Mille signals something different from one who wears a Patek Philippe. Similar to someone who uses a Punk or a BAYC as their profile picture. Porsche vs Lambo, the list goes on. So will NFTs come back? Yes. But it will follow this sequence imo. 1. Firstly, the crypto market needs to come back up. This creates new wealth, and wealthy people like to show off. In crypto, the only way to do this while remaining anon is via NFTs - which is why we pumped so hard in 2021/2022. 2. A strong crypto market also brings in NEW people into the crypto community. There is no use having a GOLD APE PFP if there are only 100 people on crypto twitter. 3. New entrants who can't afford the OG crypto collections then look for other communities to represent them. 4. Then the whole ponzinomics starts again, with project founders preaching "utility" suckering in largely unsophisticated "investors" who have never bought any other financial asset in their lives but can better understand JPEGs because it is simpler. So yes, I do think NFTs will come back because it is the ultimate luxury good, speculative tool and social signaller during a bull market. Also, we have all learnt not to underestimate the greed of people in this space. Most importantly, understand how the game is played, and not get played yourself.
