I really don't think any of this is that complicated.
WWE higher-ups said it to Dave, knowing it could become public leverage (and who knows, they may think it is true).
Tony used his platform to try to discredit it.
It's not much more complicated than that.

@YouWentToJared I’m just saying today’s conversation was reported by Meltzer. And AEW’s future is uncertain at Paramount. When another entity purchases a company, everyone’s future is uncertain (for the most part).

How is it a PR attack? The report came from Meltzer, and it’s just a thought someone from WWE had. The report not even based in any facts, it’s just “they feel like”. It’s literally gossip 😂

These rumors that have been gestating over the past couple months are a PR attack to kill the growing interest in AEW. They need the "AEW uncertainty" to drown out the fact that WWE's product sucks. But what Jon says at the end about content is 💯 as well as not needing to front for the production costs.
