Welcome back to Brixton! The new M&S Food Hall store has opened today and I have to say, it was worth the (long) wait! The purpose built Art Deco store has been completely remodelled and it’s lovely to see some of the original features such as the lead-light windows reinstated.

What an incredible & tragic story from 1864 about the death of the Strang Family, music hall performers (stage name - Cleveland)on their way to Dundee to perform

Music hall artists John and Marian Strang were drowned, along with their three young children, when the ship Dalhousie sank in a storm in St Andrews Bay in Nov 1864. Under their stage name Cleveland, the Strangs were on their way to appear at Springthorpe’s Music Hall in Dundee.

A kind friend gave me a book he thought I’d like, The Home Entertainer pub. 1939. The chapter on home theatricals has helpful hints for building an open-air theatre in one’s suburban garden on your ‘fair-size lawn’, as well as curtain & stage construction instructions 😳
