@LilaCorpsegrave I'd saymoreso class/job and sub job optimization gives alot more nuance in the strategy to a decent amount of bosses in the game given the utility of said classes. Like using a certain summon to mitigate damage, or some buffs/debuffs like haste for control of the pace of a fight.

@YourLocalMan1 In this instance, I suppose the appeal is more "how optimal can I make the correct button presses be," but I have a personal preference for dynamic short term skirmishes, and I never felt that from ff5, whether it was clicking attack during the early game or double clicking

good amount of SMT and some FF games don't have this issue much tbh. FF5 in particular gives you a mind numbing amount of strategies for bosses with its class system alone mid and late game bosses. The DeSu games add another layer to their gameplay with racial skills

I hate JRPGs specifically because most of them are actually pretty lacking in strategy. You just click optimal attack and win most of the time.

and other games in the series with their bosses and enemies emphasize press turn management more than anything. especially the Digital devil saga duology, SMT4, strange journey to some extent though it uses something slightly different than the press turn system in the series.

@Kcmedia22 Also its funny that OP says "we saw what atlus were able to do when they had more freedom to tackle mature themes" when games like devil survivor, radiant historia, strange journey, and SMT4 exist(though to varying quality).

I think her motivation for getting involved with kai and coming to the island are interesting so far but that kind of just feels so far, but i do kinda wanna see something more out of her other than "eccentric genius", but again, i do*like* her so far atleast for her interactions

not quite sure if i find frau is interesting as akiho and junna so far as far as heroines go in R;N, I don't dislike her and infact find her entertaining/funny but not rlly sure if i see her as anything more compared to those to, might have to see when i get to her route.
