This year’s celebrations will happen virtually and online due to the massive impact of COVID-19 on the continent and the world under the theme: SilencingTheGuns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development and Intensifying the Fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Each year, Africa Day has a specific theme which sets the tone for any upcoming events, activist movements, celebrations and earnest reflection on the part of all Africans.

OkayAfrica's Damola Durosomo writes: "The origins of the holiday can be traced back to 1958 when 17 African nations established African Liberation Day, to commemorate their independence from European colonialism.

The alcohol industry has stated openly and publicly that it sees Africa as its next major market, especially those countries that currently have low alcohol consumption rates. Decisive action is needed to reduce alcohol related harm on the African continent.

We had a blessed Christmas with a new feel. 2 of our board members volunteered with The Friendlies at Harare Gardens. This was a special experience for us to mingle with the less privileged. It was great to be included in their family, being called "blaz vangu" or "sister vangu"
