New intelligent agri-factory achieves 365-day "strawberry freedom"
Shanghai's largest intelligent agricultural factory can grow, pick, and pack strawberries all year round. Supporters say it's highly efficient and environmentally sustainable, with the capacity to fill the domestic supply gap that typically runs from May to November.
Strawberries are inherently sensitive to heat and intolerant of high temperatures and drought, making them a “seasonal” fruit available only from November to May. In this newly established intelligent cultivation facility, strawberries are now available year-round.
This project occupies an area of 12,000 square meters, with a smart glass greenhouse covering 3,456 square meters. Officially operational in January 2026, it focuses on high-tech cultivation, digitally intelligent management, and the integration of the entire industry.
At present, the factory has grown several strawberry varieties, including “Xiangye,” “Fenyu,” and “Baihe Liren.” The first batch of fresh strawberries is expected to be available for sale in late to mid-June of this year.

China's Tianzhou-10 cargo craft reaches launch pad
A rocket carrying China's Tianzhou-10 cargo spaceship was successfully positioned on its launch pad at the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in the southern island province of Hainan after a two- and half-hour journey on Friday.
The Long March-7 carrier rockets have successfully launched all previous Tianzhou cargo ships. To further enhance the safety of this mission, the Long March-7 has undergone targeted upgrades.
"First, this rocket is equipped with a fault diagnosis and management system for the first time, which will enable it to gradually develop intelligent flight capabilities in the future. Second, in terms of process improvements, we have eliminated some brazing joints in some pipelines to enhance product reliability. Additionally, we have optimized testing and launch procedures at the launch site, making the entire process more streamlined and efficient," said Cheng Jiahui, an engineer with China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
The cargo spacecraft will be launched at a proper time in the near future to deliver fresh supplies weighing nearly 6.3 tons to China's Tiangong Space Station.

A cup of coffee you never expected ! Young Entrepreneur Turns Chinese Culture into Business
From chili-infused coffee to drinks inspired by ancient Chinese stories, creativity is brewing in Chengdu. Behind these flavors, a young entrepreneur- Li Feiyang is transforming culture into everyday experiences—one cup at a time.
Here at Cheng Xiang Café, every cup comes with a twist. The “Burning of the Red Cliffs” is a bold Sichuan chili coffee, while “Green Plum Wine” blends subtle sweetness with stories from the Three Kingdoms. Even the foam becomes a canvas—baristas carefully etch Zhuge Liang’s portrait, turning each drink into a miniature work of art. Standing in front of two cups of chili coffee, the founder Li feiyang invites me to give it a try.
And those ideas don’t stop at coffee. On a blueberry farm outside the city, Li is working with growers—helping them reach new customers through digital tools and e-commerce. From books to business, a new generation of entrepreneurs in China is redefining how ideas are shared—and experienced. And sometimes, that meaning begins…with a cup of coffee you never expected.

China completes installation of world's largest single-unit floating offshore wind turbine
The world's largest single-unit 16-megawatt floating offshore wind turbine "Three Gorges Pilot" was installed on Saturday in waters off Yangjiang, south China's Guangdong Province.
The 16-megawatt floating offshore wind turbine consists of three parts, namely a 16 mw ultra-large capacity wind turbine, a semi-submersible floating platform, and a new mooring system.
With a maximum tip height exceeding 270 meters, the wind turbine rotor has a diameter of 252 meters, with a swept area equivalent to seven standard football fields.
Unlike traditional fixed-bottom turbines that are physically connected to the seabed, it is installed on a semi-submersible floating platform measuring 80.82 meters long, 91 meters wide, and with a displacement of 24,100 tons.
The platform is secured through nine suction anchors, combined with domestically produced high-performance polyester fiber cables and anchor chains for seabed mooring and positioning.
"To deal with the harsh sea conditions, our team has developed and applied a new mooring system, a dynamic monitoring system, an active ballast system, and 66 kV dynamic submarine cables for the first time in China," said Pan Hongguan, an offshore wind power engineer from Guangdong Branch of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG).
According to Pan, the new mooring system combines polyester cable and anchor chain, which is like adding a "spring" to the middle of the system, to deliver superior mechanical performance.
The "Three Gorges Pilot" wind turbine previously completed its integrated assembly at Tieshan Port in Beihai of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It arrived at its target sea area located more than 70 kilometers off the coast of Yangjiang after a long-distance towed voyage across the Qiongzhou Strait which connects South China's island province of Hainan with Guangdong Province on the mainland.
After being put into operation, the wind turbine is expected to generate approximately 44.65 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, enough to meet the annual electricity demand of 24,000 households.

China releases 2025 Polar Climate Report warning of record sea ice lows, rising extremes
The Polar Climate Change Annual Report (2025) was released Wednesday by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), warning of record low sea ice, sustained warming and increasingly abnormal extreme events in both polar regions.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that China has released the annual report on polar climate change.
According to the report, the polar climate in 2025 featured continued significant warming in the Arctic, persistently low sea ice extent in both polar regions, a clear divergence in ozone changes between the Arctic and Antarctic, and an increase in the abnormality of extreme weather and climate events.
Monitoring and analysis show that sea ice in both the Arctic and Antarctic remained at low levels, with the Arctic being particularly notable.
The report shows that the annual average Arctic sea ice extent in 2025 hit the lowest level since satellite observations began in 1979, while the annual maximum sea ice extent also reached a 47-year low, one of the most notable signals in this year's polar climate monitoring.
The annual average, minimum and maximum sea ice extents in Antarctica were all the third lowest since 1979.
According to the report, the Arctic continued to warm significantly in 2025, with an annual average temperature of minus 6.40 degrees Celsius, 1.14 degrees Celsius above the long-term average.
All seasons were warmer than usual, particularly winter and autumn, which were 2.13 degrees Celsius and 1.78 degrees Celsius above average respectively.
Antarctica was generally warmer, with pronounced seasonal differences.
The annual average temperature in Antarctica was minus 31.29 degrees Celsius, 0.55 degrees Celsius above the long-term average.
Spring, summer and autumn were warmer, with spring 2.14 degrees Celsius above average, while winter was 0.63 degrees Celsius cooler.
Concentrations of major greenhouse gases in the polar regions continued to rise, the report said.
Monitoring shows that levels of carbon dioxide, methane and other key greenhouse gases in both the Arctic and Antarctic increased compared with the previous year.
The report also noted that extreme weather and climate events in the polar regions became more anomalous.
In May last year, a widespread heatwave affected Greenland, causing abnormal surface melting of the ice sheet at a rate 17 times the historical average for the same period.
On October 12, rare rainfall occurred at China's Zhongshan Station in Antarctica, indicating that the abnormality of polar extreme events was intensifying.
These events show that polar changes are not only reflected in long-term trends but are also manifesting as more anomalous extreme events.
In recent years, the China Meteorological Administration has relied on its Antarctic research stations -- Zhongshan, Changcheng, Taishan and Kunlun -- together with the Yellow River Station in the Arctic to expand polar monitoring capacity.
Based on these platforms, CMA has established an observation system covering the Antarctic coast, inland ice sheet and key high‑latitude regions of the Arctic. The network is capable of stable operation in ultra‑low temperatures and provides a crucial basis for assessing polar climate change. @cmanewsinfocus
