I saw something yesterday and I still don’t know if I should pretend I didn’t see it or say something.
I went to a small restaurant to grab food. Nothing fancy, just one of those quiet places where people sit in corners and mind their business. While waiting for my order, I noticed a girl that looked very familiar. I didn’t stare at first, but when she turned properly, I recognized her.
She’s my friend’s partner.
I’ve seen her a few times when we all hung out. Not close, but I know her well enough to greet. She didn’t notice me, I was seated behind her at an angle.
She wasn’t alone.
She was with a guy I’ve never seen before. At first I thought maybe colleague or relative. They were talking casually, laughing, nothing serious. I didn’t think much of it.
Then she reached across the table and held his hand.
That was when I stopped eating.
The guy smiled, squeezed her hand, and she didn’t pull back. They kept talking like that. A few minutes later he stood up, moved to her side of the seat, and sat closer. Nobody does that with just “friends”.
She leaned into him. Not too dramatic, but close enough. He brushed her hair back. She was smiling like someone comfortable. This wasn’t first-time awkward energy. This looked familiar.
At that point I was already uncomfortable. I even checked my phone to confirm I wasn’t mistaken about who she was. Same face. Same voice. Same person.
They ordered food to share. One plate. He fed her at some point. She laughed and tapped his hand. I don’t know how else to interpret that.
The worst part… my friend trusts her a lot. He’s always talking about her like she’s different. He even mentioned recently that they’re planning something serious.
I kept asking myself maybe I’m misunderstanding. Maybe there’s explanation. But deep down, it didn’t look innocent.
When they were leaving, he held her waist briefly and she didn’t react. They walked out together like a couple that didn’t want attention.
She still didn’t see me.
I finished my food but my mind wasn’t there again.
Now I’m stuck.
If I tell my friend, I might destroy his relationship over something I only observed. If I keep quiet, I’ll be acting like I didn’t see anything.
I don’t even know which one is worse.
Should I mind my business… or say something?
