Regardless of how many defence and commercial ties Arab countries forge with Israel or the US, stability in the region will not be achieved without resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a just and sustainable manner, writes @ZDarkazally. chathamhouse.org/2026/04/israel…

The expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank undermines prospects for long-term regional peace. The US, Europe and Arab states should act before it’s too late. chathamhouse.org/2026/04/israel…

European countries, including non-EU members such as the UK, can leverage their bilateral economic, trade, arms and tech relations with Israel to push for a halt to annexation measures [in the West Bank], says @ZDarkazally. chathamhouse.org/2026/04/israel…

While the world has been distracted by the US-Israeli war on Iran and its fallout, the Israeli government has accelerated the de facto annexation of the occupied West Bank. The US, Europe and Arab states should act before it’s too late, writes @ZDarkazally ⤵️ chathamhouse.org/2026/04/israel…

Consistent with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine. I will make this solemn announcement before the United Nations General Assembly this coming September. The urgent priority today is to end the war in Gaza and to bring relief to the civilian population. Peace is possible. We need an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and massive humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza. We must also ensure the demilitarization of Hamas, secure and rebuild Gaza. And finally, we must build the State of Palestine, guarantee its viability, and ensure that by accepting its demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel, it contributes to the security of all in the region. There is no alternative. The French people want peace in the Middle East. It is our responsibility — as French citizens, alongside Israelis, Palestinians, and our European and international partners — to prove that peace is possible. In light of the commitments made to me by the President of the Palestinian Authority, I have written to him to express my determination to move forward. Trust, clarity, and resolve. We will achieve peace.

Israel appears to be planning to expand its operations to take military control of the whole Gaza Strip. Recognition of Palestine by France, the UK and others may be the last hope for peace, writes @ZDarkazally. chathamhouse.org/2025/05/gaza-w…

'If there is no political process, Israel will reoccupy the Gaza Strip. For Israel, a reoccupation is politically and economically unsustainable – a step back in time in a region with a long memory,' writes @ZDarkazally. chathamhouse.org/2025/03/arab-s…

The bans on Al Jazeera’s reporting from the West Bank and Israel has really altered the scope and depth of its coverage. It is particularly visible in the situation with the wait for Palestinian captives to be released. In November 2023, Jazeera was on the ground reporting on the families and also the Israeli attempts to crack down on celebrations. Al Jazeera’s ban also resulted in a major gap in the coverage of the recent battles and sieges in Jenin. This type of censorship is not only a total disgrace that should be denounced by anyone or any nation claiming to support a free press, but it is also leaving the public less informed about issues of vital importance.
