@Jv1i3n_ @sighaboutlife Wayne's story works for me because I think people take advantage of situations. I like that they never tell the audience. Also, his death is amazingly sad. Season 2 is a tone shift and while I like it, it is never as good as S1.

That was the finale for 'The Leftovers' S1.... 'The Prodigal Son Returns' 4/4, 5/5, 10/10, however you rate television. Fuck, I'm speechless. Wow. Just so moving and harrowing. 'The Leftovers' closed out its first season with a bit of hellfire and brimstone. That shot of the burning cul-de-sac was magnificent. After the Guilty Remant’s big Loved Ones stunt, Mapleton had descended into madness. Though things ended on an encouraging note, emotionally speaking, there are still a ton of things to cover in Season 2 LIKE A LOT, and all I want to do is just dive straight into S2, because fuck I need more. Firstly, Kevin's mental asylum dream was way too detailed (he even saw the Cairo article in the NatGeo issue) for it to have been just a harmless dream. And Patti, I'm guessing, will most likely haunt him like a ghost. And nothing's changed as far as his blackouts are concerned other than the fact that he's now aware of them. 'The Prodigal Son Returns' was chilling and cathartic, with many tears shed throughout. Other than the Guilty Remnant, the biggest problem storytelling wise in season 1 was Wayne.  He essentially had nothing to do with nobody, making chance encounters with but not really affecting our main characters. Was he a fraud? Was he a god? Did he have anything to do with the Departure? Did he have anything to do with anything on this show? Is his baby gonna do something? I hope S2 holds the answers, but if not he could go down as the most inconsequential plot device in prestige history. S2 UP NEXT!

"President Trump told Fox News that the US may take over the strait in the future if they have to and collect tolls. The president described this as the US being the guardian angel of the Strait of Hormuz and the Middle East. He said that would involve the US taking 20% of the oil that passes through the strait."

People can only understand you at their level of understanding. Bill sees ego driven because he’s ego driven. The mere fact that it’s a community based center and NOT a library flies in the face of that. It’s built for “we” not “he” but a narcissist w no empathy can’t see that
Blue Georgia@BlueGeorgia

Bill Maher mocked the Obama Presidential Center as a billion-dollar monument to ego. Ro Khanna had the better answer. "It's a unique story of the possibility in this country of someone who had no shot. When I was in law school, they said to me, your Indian-American, you're of Hindu faith. Go to the Capital because you'll never get elected to anything. And then Barack Obama happened, and he changed the direction of this nation for millions of people."

'The Leftovers' S1, EP.8 -- 'Cairo' Jill cuts the dog loose. Kevin cuts Patti loose. I HAVE A LOT TO SAY MAN! 'The Leftovers' dropped a wicked and heavy weight on my lap with 'Cairo' - where Kevin's sanity and morality were run through a rather diabolical gauntlet. 'The Leftovers' seems like it has taken shape, or at least that the show is finally done setting the table and is now prepared to serve the dish. The show took lengths to raise the stakes for Kevin, and with the help of a brilliant performance by actress Ann Dowd, there were intense, gripping scenes. The last 10 minutes of 'Cairo' fucked my brain up so bad like I couldn't even believe what I was hearing, same with Kevin. Like I mentioned above, Ann Dowd was terrific as Patti, one of the most chilling performances from the show thus far. Kevin blacking out was something the show flirted with, but in this episode it went full tilt on by having Kevin, with the help of the mysterious Dean, attack and kidnap Patti and whisk her to the titular Cairo with the intensions of murdering her. Also Jill’s storyline was hit and miss for me. This was the most meaningful time the show has dedicated to the character, and perhaps with depression being in the headlines previously, it was the first time Jill felt like a real person and not like a badly drawn troubled teen. Instead of being mad at her Dad dating someone new, she’s mad that this particular person seems to be dealing with loss and depression and overcoming it, and she can’t fathom how. She gets hung up on Nora having a gun but not needing it, and becomes obsessed with discovering it to prove Nora isn’t as adjusted as she’s pretending. One more thing. This episode seemed to really dial things up and also added some clarity to things we’ve already seen. The show’s self-serious tone still takes some getting adjusted to, but I like that it seems like we’re going somewhere, and the GR’s upcoming plans will push things even further.

“Did you murder her?” “She was okay with it.” “And when Laurie’s time comes, she will be okay with it, too. And it’s coming, so soon.” Can’t even believe this scene in ‘The Leftovers’ S1, EP.8 -- ‘Cairo’ Fuck, this was so damn gut wrenching.

@Jv1i3n_ The Leftovers is one of those shows that addresses hard topics in entertaining ways. Sometimes it is hard, but there is such poetry in the moments of levity. Season one, for me, is devastating.

After watching 'Guest' there's a question that keeps plaguing me as I watch 'The Leftovers' S1, and that is, is this show entertaining? For me, I'd say yes. This might be the topic for another discussion about why we watch TV, but I have to assume most would say that we watch television to be entertained, and though 'The Leftovers' offers interesting ways to meditate on the concept of loss and mortality, does it offer quality entertainment to boot? Ambiguous loss is a terrible thing to experience, and it's crazy how I'm just subjected myself to that. Am I venting? Probably, but 'The Leftovers' has me thinking so hard right now. Haven't felt this way about a show before, so it's weird.
