In 2018, the Ministry of Higher & Tertiary Education, Science & Technology Development undertook the National Critical Skills Audit. The audit sought to assist in optimising research, planning and training of human capital.

The apprentices training programme is fully funded by ZIMDEF whether the apprentice has been recruited directly by the firms or through government. ZIMDEF pays tuition, examination and accommodation fees for all apprentices attending college. This is in addition to monthly wages.
