Japan's obesity rate is 3%.
America's obesity rate is 40%.
And guess what?
No one in Japan is doing paleo, vegan, or carnivore diets.
They're just eating REAL FOOD.
None of our processed junk.
Meanwhile, we're over here fasting, cold plunging, and complicating our lives.
In Japan, they just eat normally and walk around.
RFK, please fix our damn country!

@NgoloTesla i think given modern context it makes sense to wash more than you’re implying, but likely less than most people do
English

It is ridiculous to suggest that it would be beneficial for a wild animal to wash their paws with chemical soap. Using slightly less toxic soap is no less ridiculous.
There's a time and place to clean yourself like that, and that is when you get industrial chemicals and other obvious toxins on your hands.

@the_wilderless this is a failure to take the path all the way. its a cop out and lazy.

I’ve talked before about how I grew up around and have been friends with a couple folks on the sociopathy spectrum,,
What I haven’t talked about is, uh, I’ve met a couple people I’m pretty sure *put themselves* on the sociopathy spectrum via meditation
bayes@bayeslord
i think any truly good meditation enhancing tech probably comes along with a risk of nontrivial increases in the number of sociopaths

@mattparlmer meditation is a skill that requires practice, alcohol is not lol.

@wanyeburkett humans need context, parenting being one of the hardest of all

@nickcammarata @RichardMCNgo but this is also seems correct to me, i just dont think its what most ppl are getting at with the term unconditional love
English

@RichardMCNgo i'm not sure it works like that? love is a feeling, like sour is a feeling. there might be some conditions in which you feel sour or not (eg eating sour foods) but you don't really control it. and it's not "conditional sour" it's just sour. you can't add conditions to sour
English

Unconditional love is not "I will love you under any circumstances". I call that selfless love, and it's bad, because you do have a self.
Unconditional love is "I won't use my love as a bargaining chip against you"—i.e. I won't add conditions to it to make you do what I want.
♡s♡@sun_girlxo
Please explain to me what unconditional love means — outside of a parent-child relationship — and what it looks like in practice and how it’s possible for it to not have any exceptions and if it’s real
English

@nickcammarata @RichardMCNgo I feel like it’s more related to right action? the right thing to do is often the loving thing to do… like respond well to my 2 year old who bit me, which comes from understanding and empathy vs. only making these choices based on whatever narratives are spinning
English

@alexeyguzey maybe similar to Japan where ratings are generally skewed lower as people are more critical. On Tabelog (japans yelp), anything over a 4 is probably god tier, and the decimal after a 3 actually matters (3.2 way less good than a 3.8)
English

@ZacCitron i have a copy of that one in the stacks — i'll check my notes
English

@ichthys30 We named it Discord because Accord is a shitty name for a business (sorry Honda). Nothing more than that.
