@LIEngProf Yes as I recall there were Dem legislators in both 2nd and 3rd who wanted to keep it viable for their own purposes - so they split the baby and gave both seats to GOP for the decade - aside from the two respite with Bright

@ZacMcCrary Dems made a mistake in the way they drew it. They were hoping to split Montgomery in such a way that the 2nd & 3rd districts could both be competitive with the right candidates. They got that in ‘08 (Bright won & Rogers had a tougher race), but that was it.

Bright was the first Dem to win this seat since Goldwater's re-making of the Deep South - on short list of most impressive House wins of the last 30 years.

The nationwide red wave swept up red district Democrats in 2010 and Bobby Bright was no exception. Bright however was still the leading Democrat on the ticket even as every statewide Republican carried it. Senator Shelby won AL-2 with 2/3 of the vote.

I have 3 younger brothers, and when I was 19 I saw them growing up and struggling with all the traditional challenges of pending adulthood. Yet every book out there was outdated and uninteresting - so I wrote a graphic novel.
Libs of TikTok went after me yesterday over the book because of a dumb joke in it.
I went back and looked - and I’m still proud of it.
