Soil ball on the left was in the spring strip till portion of the field while the soil ball on the right is from the no till portion of the field. Strip till soil is almost ready to plant while the no-till soil still needs some time to get fit. #plantingconditions #NEIA

@gavin_spoor This was 50 lbs of Winter Cereal Rye with a drone in early RM corn chopped for Earlage in the first pic and soybeans in the second pic. Sunlight, rainfall, and no till ground r key for success. We tried a mix and it had less growth/establishment than just straight rye.

Looking for advice on seeding cover crops. Who has had luck aerial seeding with a drone or airplane?
Looking for mixes that can be successful ahead of both beans and corn.
Main goals are weed suppression and erosion control on HEL ground. Nitrogen fixation would be an added bonus.
What is ideal timing of seeding? I’m worried about seeding too early and combining soybeans turning into a green mess if we have a wet fall.

@PetersenFarms @VanceCrowe Soil and Water Outcomes Fund would pay for decreased Nitrogen. They pay based on reduction of Nitrogen. Not sure if your watershed would qualify in their program but I have worked in watersheds that farmers do qualify for reducing N.
English

@VanceCrowe I work with a county SWCD and a regional watershed partnership.
I just realized there isn’t a govt program that I can think of that would pay a producer to decrease N rates.
Plenty of programs to pay for things that stimulate more money spending, but nothing to reduce the N $.

@Agronomy_Guy Have you seen any cases where grazing cows were affected by Acetochlor?
English

Here is your yearly reminder that rye for forage is not typically allowed after acetachlor (Resicore, Harness Xtra/Max, Keystone NXT, Surpass, TripleFlexx, Surestart, etc.) Not sure why many have no clue on this restriction. wcws.webhosting.cals.wisc.edu/wp-content/upl…

@PetersenFarms Does the 4 in. Depth require much more horsepower than just a 1.5 inch depth?
English

@ZachTimm4 Correct.
Planter handles UAN, ATS, 10-34-0
English

@PetersenFarms Just potash and AMS? Thanks for the info, I appreciate it
English

@ZachTimm4 Spring pass 2-3 days ahead of the planter.
No fertilizer burn issues, but we aren’t running any 46-0-0 in the strip either.
English

@PetersenFarms In the fall? Ever have problems with fertilizer burn?
