Last month, I spoke to Asamoah Gyan in Brooklyn. We discussed everything from his infamous penalty miss in 2010, making the move to Sunderland, paving the way for Ghana's next generation of players, and more. It's out in the latest @FourFourTwo issue: magazinesdirect.com/single-issues/…

Between rejecting Portugal’s World Cup call-up and delivering the title to Arsenal, it’s been an eventful few days for Eli Junior Kroupi. He’s surely got to be in line for a maiden Les Bleus call-up in September.

Arsenal are Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years, and one man who has proven indispensable is Eli Junior Kroupi thanks to his goal vs. Manchester City. @ben366486451371 runs the rule over Bournemouth's French forward: breakingthelines.com/player-analysi…

@ZachLowy Grab a chair. 😊 He just felt like it. Like: in 2024, Portugal sacrificed the Euro when he “had” to use Ronaldo in the meaningless game with Georgia, tiring him, cause Ramos was injured and he had no third striker. So he took only two strikers again. Go figure!

I really need Roberto Martínez to explain to me why he felt the need to call up four right backs (five if you include João Neves), and not Mateus Fernandes or João Palhinha.

@ZachLowy I think Venezuela has the best chance based on their youth sides coming through who have done well at u17/u20 World Cups.

To be clear, the Europa League is a major trophy, but Atleti winning it is a bit like Chelsea winning the Conference League. The only reason they were in that competition is because they finished behind Roma and a bang average Chelsea side in the Champions League.

One of the greatest tragedies in modern football history is Antoine Griezmann never winning a major trophy* with Atlético Madrid. Hard to believe that if he’d just stuck around at Atleti instead of going to Barcelona, he’d be a Spanish champion.

@WestHam_Central Tbf I think Castellanos’ age and lack of end product may result in him having fewer suitors, but yeah he could leave. Diouf has his shortcomings but his delivery is fantastic and he has the potential to be a good two way left back

West Ham’s biggest assets if/when they go down: 1) Mateus Fernandes: Elite controlling midfielder who is bound for a UCL team 2) Konstantinos Mavropanos: One of the few saving graces of their backline 3) Jarrod Bowen: 29 and coming off a down year but still a reliable threat

Ideally, you’d sell those three for a hefty profit, rebuild around Castellanos/Summerville in attack, and make sweeping overhauls in midfield and defense. As painful as this relegation could be, it could end up being a blessing in disguise for West Ham.

Last season, Claudio Ranieri very nearly returned Roma to the Champions League for the first time since 2018/19, only for Juve to come back and beat Venezia. One year later, Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma control their own destiny and just need to beat relegated Verona to qualify for the UCL.
Breaking The Lines@breakthelines

Claudio Ranieri chose Gian Piero Gasperini as his successor, but after a public spat with Gasperini, he resigned from his advisory role. Since then, Roma have won four matches in a row, and they are 1 win away from returning to the Champions League. breakingthelines.com/serie-a-analys…
