I grew up near Carlisle and remember learning as a kid about how the school helped "civilize" Native Americans. 🤮 I'm glad this proclamation gets the history right in all its ugliness.

Today, Biden signed a proclamation establishing the Carlisle Federal Indian Boarding School National Monument in PA. The proclamation "acknowledges the painful past of forced assimilation of Native children through the implementation of federal Indian boarding school policies."

This is simply not correct. The Civil Rights Act bans discrimination on the basis of religion, which is not an immutable characteristic.
