It’s great that Biden is stepping out but elevating VP Harris guarantees the election will be a referendum on the past four years, instead of a debate about the corporate agenda of project 2025. People want change, not a forceful argument of why the economy is amazing.

@ezraklein That depends on who the candidate is. If it’s Kamala Harris he will gladly debate her because he knows it will become a referendum on the past four years. We need a new candidate that doesn’t have to spend all their time trying to convince people that the economy is great.

Wow… this is embarrassing. The only thing that makes me happy about this debate is that at least now the democrats can have an open convention and pick a new candidate that can actually represent progressive politics in a coherent way.

@BarackObama Maybe there is a way to achieve the same objectives of Affirmative Action without explicitly using race as the criteria. Maybe family income would be a better determining metric🤔. Kind of like how single family zoning replaced segregation but ultimately achieved the same thing.

Affirmative action was never a complete answer in the drive towards a more just society. But for generations of students who had been systematically excluded from most of America’s key institutions—it gave us the chance to show we more than deserved a seat at the table. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision, it’s time to redouble our efforts.

Let me be clear. Neither Brian Krassenstein or I think public nudity should be legal. We don't think kids should be exposed to nude adults. With that said, nudity is legal in many red and blue states. Nude gay people on bikes, in a state that allows nudity is not illegal. If you are outraged over this, you should be outraged over the lack of laws that allow this. You should also be outraged over laws in the red states that allow heterosexual people be naked in public. Public nudity has been legal in various jurisdictions since the beginning of humanity. Children have been exposed to nudity since the beginning of humanity. Do I think it's right? No. Why is it that this outrage only ignites when gay people are naked? Where was all this outrage during Mardi Gras parades? Where is all this outrage when straight nudist groups bike through cities?

Barcelona and Atlanta are comparable cities, with a population of ~5 million and similar subway length. however, Barcelona is much denser and has 80% lower transportation carbon emissions and 12x as much metro ridership. housing policy is transportation policy is climate policy

Public debate is always a great answer. I’d love to hear Joe Rogan, Elon Musk, RFK Jr. and some of the top scientists and doctors in the world debate each other over COVID. I’d love to hear why the COVID deniers think so many more Americans died during the COVID years if COVID wasn’t deadly.

@SustainableTall I definitely think every building should have a variety of home sizes and types. However, only 12% of the USA housing stock are one bedroom homes, apartments or studio apartments and 48% of the population are single adults. So one bedroom homes are absolutely what is needed.

@JesseJenkins We subsidize EV’s yet tiny homes are not even legal to live in? Feels like the environmental movement has completely ignored the contribution housing has to carbon emissions because home size in not even factored into the energy codes. Nothing against EV’s.

A base rwd Tesla 3 leases for $399 vs Honda Civic for ~$340/mo today. Keep eyes on Chevy Equinox & Blazer EVs coming in Fall. Base price ~$30k before subsidy. Honda CR-V base model MSRP is $28.4k. Pretty darned close. Equinox EV could be cheaper than CR-V after subsidy.

@rebeccajtiffany Regardless of what type of residential structures are built, the goal should be to produce a greater diversity of affluence at the same time as increasing supply. Subdividing large homes, townhomes & ADU’s should be our first choice because they also work against segregation.
