His unpleasant physical appearance reflected nothing but his lack of familiarity with a civilized way of life.” Nezzar continued: “Despite his age and the weight of the years upon him, I left deeply impressed by my meeting with the king, who accompanied me outside the hall, demonstrating the great respect he held for our country.” He added: “I returned to Algeria with Saudi-funded projects, despite the burdens that the Gulf War had placed on the country.” News reports at the time spoke of Saudi Arabia providing $3 billion to the coup regime, which desperately needed the money.
