The Lord of the Rings has endured for 70 years, sold 150 million copies, and produced a trilogy that swept the Oscars and grossed $3 billion precisely BECAUSE of its moral clarity. Audiences didn't show up despite the good-vs-evil framework. They showed up because of it. Tolkien fought in the trenches of the Somme. He watched his closest friends die in the mud. He knew more about the darkness of the real world than any CBR writer ever will. And he STILL chose to write a story where courage, friendship, loyalty, and sacrifice defeat evil. That wasn't naivety. That was a deliberate choice by a man who'd seen the worst and refused to let it win. "The 21st century has no place for black-and-white perspectives." Really? Tell that to the millions who rewatch the trilogy every year. Tell that to the audience that rejected Rings of Power which gave them exactly the morally grey, "authentic" storytelling this writer claims they want and went back to the original. The reason moral clarity feels "tough to watch" for this guy isn't because the story is flawed. It's because believing in genuine goodness requires something modern cynics can't afford sincerity. Tolkien had it. This writer doesn't. The audience knows the difference.

We are more alike than we know.

Again, I have to ask who exactly is this for? Who is the target audience?

Inflation has been so rampant that kids these days don't know that consoles used to reduce in price.

People also learn languages to consume media. Some people learn spanish to watch Tele Novela's or a weeb learns Japanese to watch anime. They may never communicate with a person in that language but they still have utility in learning it.

@JJ_McCullough @Charles_string_ What I will say is that it is very hard to retain proficiency in a skill that you do not actively use. Sure you can learn some french, but if you are not actively speaking or engaged with it all of that will eventually fade.

@Charles_string_ I’m popular because I’m honest. It is very very difficult to become fluent as an adult in a language you don’t need for day-to-day communication. Since you’re some kinda monarchist I guess you’re used to living in a world of fantasy, but this is the reality.
