Myth: "I only wear vegan fabrics. Better for the animals, better for the planet." Let's check in on Doris's annual contribution. Once a year, in late spring, Doris is sheared. The procedure takes approximately three minutes. Doris does not enjoy it. Doris does not, by any visible measure, suffer from it. Doris is, immediately afterwards, a noticeably more comfortable animal in the British summer. The fleece weighs approximately 3 kilograms. It is sold to the British Wool Marketing Board for, depending on the year, between £0.40 and £2.50 per kilogram. The shearing costs more than the wool fetches. Brian is shearing Doris at a loss. The wool is then: - Naturally flame-retardant - Naturally antibacterial - Moisture-wicking - Biodegradable - Renewable, annually - Carbon-storing while in use The replacement, in performance fabrics: - Polyester - Polyamide - Acrylic - Polypropylene - All petroleum-derived - All shedding microplastics on every wash - All requiring fossil fuel inputs to produce - All non-biodegradable, with a typical landfill lifespan of 200-500 years A single wash of a polyester fleece can release up to 700,000 microplastic fibres into the water system. These fibres are now in: every tested water source on earth, every tested human placenta, every tested rainfall sample, the deep ocean, the Arctic ice, and the lungs of marine mammals. A single wash of a wool jumper releases: nothing. The wool, when eventually disposed of, returns to soil within a few years. The fabric being marketed as the "ethical" alternative to wool is plastic. The plastic is "ethical" because nobody has been asked to slaughter the polymer. The polymer also has not been asked. Doris, by being a sheep on a fell, is producing the most thoroughly sustainable performance fabric humans have ever made. Brian is selling it at a loss. The fashion industry, meanwhile, is selling petroleum at a profit and calling it ethical. Reject plastic. Wear wool. Doris is, this morning, growing next year's batch.

Keir Starmer said this in 2023: “Every day seems to bring a new existential risk to British farming. “Losing a farm is not like losing any other business, you can’t come back…you deserve better than that.” Instead, he did the opposite. He punished farmers.

From today, family farms and family businesses are subject to the Labour government’s inheritance tax. This is having a devastating impact on family businesses. Generational family businesses are being punished and in many cases, unable to afford the financial impact. Shameful.

I will always make decisions that are in the national interest. It’s why we aren’t getting dragged into the Middle East conflict, and why we are fighting to protect your living standards. And while opposition parties have responded by dividing communities, we respond with hope and pride. Pride in our communities, and the hope of a country that’s better for our children. That’s what we’re fighting for. Vote Labour on Thursday 7 May.

@Keir_Starmer @RachelReevesMP Would you like to take this a case study as to how perceived "easy win" tax collections affect people. Review their perceived wealth and how "Lucky" they were to own a farm. I put my money on they were "working people" you claim to support.

I should be on the farm today planting barley or spreading fertiliser, but instead we’re at the High Court for a Judicial Review where we’ll ask the Court to step in and declare that the Chancellor’s decision not to consult properly over IHT changes with the public was unlawful.

@benonwine No prison in my opinion as it costs us, the tax payer, to keep her fed and warm. She should be on the streets every day clearing up rubbish and scrubbing graffiti off buildings. 2 years of this would be far better

@UKLabour Let me guess, labour will hand a select few who are considered "hard working" won't be blanket support. I use oil in 4 different instances and I can tell you now I won't qualify. I will put a bet on farmers or high earners determined by having a job won't qualify..

Whatever you think about her books, what J.K. Rowling is doing right now matters more. She’s one of the most successful authors alive. She could have stayed quiet, protected her empire, and avoided the mob. Instead, she chose to speak up for women for sex-based rights, for single-sex spaces, for safeguarding. And she’s taken years of abuse for it. That isn’t hatred. That’s conviction. History tends to be kinder to people who stand their ground than to those who stay silent. Thank God For J.K Rowling and God Bless Her ✊❤️🙏

Employer NI went from 13.8% to 15% in April 2025. The threshold dropped from £9,100 to £5,000. That's an extra £937.80 per employee per year. Since then, payrolled employees have dropped by 184,000 and unemployment just hit its highest level since 2015. Nobody's connecting the dots.

@Keir_Starmer Tosh. 70-75% of Great Britain is farmland, you completely ghosted the sector with your Inheritance tax change and then refused to even listen or talk to the sector. People took their own life. You never mention this vast sector on your feeds and you never thank the work they do.
