my classmate in med school studies for seven hours every evening and exercises daily. I used to ask him how did he manage it & he said, "I'm very disciplined". I met his wife yesterday, she told me how she cooked him three fresh meals daily, mowed their lawn, ran all errands, cleaned the house weekly, and handled all social plans. It made me wonder how many times "discipline" means a woman doing all of the other essential work that keeps a life going

I was on a train and a pregnant woman was asking for a seat. I offered mine, but she said she couldn’t sit there because it was in the center and she was already feeling nauseous and suffocated. So she asked a guy at the corner. He said, “You can sit on my lap.” Before anyone could react, a grandma behind him tapped his shoulder and said, “Then I’ll sit on YOUR lap.” She sat on his lap, the pregnant woman took the grandma’s seat, and the entire train witnessed instant justice delivered by a 70-year-old legend.

Stop self-rejecting. Don’t think you can’t get it, can’t do it, without even trying. That voice of self doubt? You can only silence it by actually taking action to prove it wrong. So next year, even as you wonder “What if I fail? What if I don’t get in?” Do it anywayyyyy! Do not be the person getting in your own way.

Work on your EQ. Two underrated skills that will bring you far in life;
1. Learn to give criticism without offending and to take criticism without reacting on impulse. Pause your reaction when you feel triggered, and think about how this criticism can help you grow instead.

What's a cheat code to adulting?

how to have fun as an adult:
> say yes to spontaneous plans even when you're tired - some of the best nights are unplanned
> cap venting to 20% of total hang time; any longer and it's time to move on to more fun topics!!
> stop opting for boring hangs. switch things up with your friends. try something new!!
> stop making everything productive - not every hobby needs to "go somewhere" ok??
> be 5% more silly in your life. dance in your room, sing badly in the car, crack a bad joke. let's grow the silly muscle
> hang out with people who make you laugh, not just people who "make sense"
> take a random class just for fun - pottery, dance, improv, cooking
> stop optimizing everything. embrace doing things badly just because they're enjoyable
we forgot that life is supposed to be FUN ya'll
lets go PLAY!!!

convinced that adults have totally forgotten how to have fun in conversation. every conversation is either "checklist catch up on life events" or "grave discussion of public events we must feel sad about". we've totally lost the sense of play. hold your beliefs loosely, laugh.

there's a woman at this gym who's been doing the exact same workout for the past 3 months.
same machines, same order, same time.
someone new tried to give her advice.
she smiled and said, "I'm not trying to improve. i'm trying to maintain. this body carried me through divorce and cancer. we have an agreement now."
fitness culture doesn't know what to do with contentment.

Let us #PrayTogether that the leaders of nations may be free from the temptation to use wealth against humanity, turning it into weapons that destroy peoples and monopolies that demean workers. Whoever serves God becomes free from wealth, but whoever serves wealth remains its slave! Whoever seeks justice transforms wealth into the common good; whoever seeks domination transforms the common good into the prey of their own greed.

what helped me during times when i was overthinking is asking myself this question:
“when has it ever not work out for me?”
it grounds me back to the reality how everything always worked out for me. even the things that seemed like it didn’t at first, they led me to better places all the time.
