I was asked in @zec_forge my genuine perspective on why financial privacy matters. I have always loved financial privacy. It's the reason I avoid using my bank apps in public, or ensure my balance is hidden if I absolutely have to. Same for when I do crypto transfers. 😂 But my real eye-opener for onchain privacy came from a wallet hack I will never forget. It happened in September 2025, just after the Web3 Lagos Conference. Hear my story!! 👇 Monday morning after the conference, we headed back to Ibadan via train. While I was about to alight the bus to pick a bike home, I saw on the team chat that salary was paid. At least another money was in to replace the one spent in Lagos the previous week.😂 Then on that fateful Thursday, Òjò burúkú ẹ‌ṣù gbọ‌ mí mu, I wanted to convert some crypto to naira. I refreshed, refreshed, and refreshed. Went from Bitget to Zerion to Okx. Where exactly is this $50? That's when I realised, apparently, I have been drained. 😭😂 I saw the missed notification: USDT bridged from Celo to BSC and sent out. I was just devastated. My Dev friend confirmed it wasn't a sweeper bot function; it was most likely done manually. 😂 It then dawned on me that my private key had been exposed in some way. But the real confirmation came the next month. Salary was paid again to the same wallet (I forgot to send a new address to my employer). I was only lucky I was active the exact minute it was sent, so I swept it out to an uncompromised address before they could. 😂 That was the moment I realized someone had been tracking my public wallet for so long, just waiting for funds to land. We always hear "Your keys, Your Crypto." But the truth is, a hacker wouldn't even bother trying to get your keys if they couldn't see your public wallet balance and track when money is coming in. Public ledgers make us targets. It made me wish there was a tool that could just allow me to receive crypto where only I can see it, and not everyone onchain. And for me, @Zcash just happens to have the exact tech I need to be safer onchain. 🛡️

I think one of the first times I understood financial privacy was when I was younger and using my mum’s bank account. 😂 As a guy nah… there were just some things I wanted to buy or pay for that I definitely did not want showing up in transaction history. @zec_forge @Zcash
