@Tactx_ Surely you have to sacrifice one defensive player and ask wissa or mbuemo to push up to the half way line, which will automatically take 1/2 defenders back and create some space or avenue to play longer pass out.

Brentford played with the most compact 4-4-2 low block you will see all season. The problem with it against top teams is that there is no escape. Want to play short passes to link before springing the counter attack? Arsenal will steal the ball back immediately.

@tactixology The pressing structure was all wrong, Bruno up with Zirkzee and not actually pressing. Overload in midfield with 3 v 2 and that is the cruxt.

HALF TIME NOTES United - Tottenham 0:1 A catastrophe at Old Trafford Worst half of the season. Completely impotent with the ball, completely chaotic without it. This was a good half for anyone claiming that tactics come last and that gameplay is largerly determined by player quality. You could clearly see how our tactics were poor in all phases and how they caused all our players to look worse than they are. • as feared, we saw a return to hoofball in posession, trying to find Rashford and Garnacho with virtually every pass • we were thus unable to compete even basic build up and progression tasks • this completely destabilized our structure and exposed us to constant pressing, counter-pressing and turnovers • our back line was completely rattled by their intensity; since it’s so dependent on players and not patterns, it couldn’t cope nor progress • knowing that Rashford and Garnacho will be rushing forward, Spurs also exploited our FBs all the time (both now have yellows) Utter disasterclass here.
