In the Kim Soo-hyun defamation case, Kim Se-ui is now at risk of arrest, as former judge-turned-lawyer Moon Yoo-jin commented: “This is a case where the qualitative level of maliciousness has gone beyond the court’s tolerance.” “HoverLab” (Garosero Research Institute) operator Kim Se-ui likely to face arrest warrant issuance Prosecutors have filed for an arrest warrant against Kim Se-ui, who raised allegations that actor Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship with the late actress Kim Sae-ron when she was still a minor. Regarding this, attorney Moon Yoo-jin (managing partner at Law Firm Pansim, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 41) stated on the 22nd that she believes Kim Se-ui is likely to be detained. The Seoul Gangnam Police Station, which has been investigating Kim Se-ui on charges of defamation by spreading false information against actor Kim Soo-hyun, applied for an arrest warrant on the 14th through the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office. On May 7 of last year, Kim Se-ui and attorney Boo Ji-seok of Law Firm Buyu held a press conference at SpaceShare Samsung Station Center in Samseong-dong, Seoul, where they released an audio recording they claimed contained the late Kim Sae-ron’s voice. However, police concluded that “the suspect was fully aware that the victim (Kim Soo-hyun) had never dated the deceased during her minor years and that the victim was not responsible for her death, yet publicly spread false information with malicious intent to defame him.” Police also concluded that the audio file released by Kim Se-ui and attorney Boo last May had been manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI). According to reports, the police stated in the arrest warrant application that although Kim Se-ui knew the identity of the person communicating with the deceased had never been verified, he still posted manipulated KakaoTalk materials to make them appear as if they were real conversations with Kim Soo-hyun. After Kim Se-ui’s press conference, Kim Soo-hyun reportedly lost multiple advertising contracts, and lawsuits seeking damages were filed against Kim Se-ui. According to police, the total amount claimed in these civil lawsuits reached an enormous 17.4 billion won. Police stated that the actions “caused the collapse of the victim’s social standing, economic activities, and professional foundation for survival.” The warrant hearing (pre-arrest interrogation) for Kim Se-ui is scheduled for the 26th at the Seoul Central District Court before Chief Judge Boo Dong-sik (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 33). Former judge and attorney Moon Yoo-jin expressed the opinion that an arrest warrant is likely to be issued. Moon stated, “Although it is true that a significant amount of evidence has already been collected, from the court’s perspective the qualitative maliciousness of this case appears to have exceeded the judiciary’s tolerance.” She added, “If the investigators’ claims are true, then this involved fabricating the voice of a deceased person with AI, falsely framing a living person with accusations tantamount to murder, inflicting massive financial damages, and even involving lawyers to deceive the public through the highly credible format of a press conference. This amounts to mocking the judicial system itself.” Moon further emphasized that “the risk of reoffending is especially high,” noting that Kim Se-ui is already standing trial in another case involving similar allegations. She explained that the judge handling the warrant would likely be concerned that “if this person is left free, he could continue causing secondary and tertiary harm and social chaos through high-impact YouTube broadcasts.” Other well-known attorneys frequently seen in the media, including Kim Kwang-sam and Heo Joo-yeon, also reportedly leaned toward the view that the arrest warrant is likely to be granted. — Reporter Park Soon-jong pennmike.com/news/articleVi…
